Hoosier vs Goodyear 16" radial slicks
 

I am talking about true road racing slicks; not DOT racing tires.

What are your personal opinions about the Hoosier front radial tires, size 23.5 x 11 R 16 versus the Goodyear 23.5x10.5-16 tires? The Hoosiers are $100 cheaper per tire.
How well do the Hoosiers perform versus the Goodyear?
How well do they hold up compared to the Goodyears?

I tried them both plus a couple others and I found the Hankook's to be the best for my car and driving style. I think they have added and deleted some sizes so check. They were very good under braking and the overall feel was good, but best of all is the had very good wear. I ran a 3 hour enduro with practice and warm ups on one set during the heat of summer. Goodyear and Hoosier were good for about 1-2 hours tops and the last 1/2 hour they were loose. Avon makes a true slick as well. Bought mine from Frisbee tires in Las Vegas.

Hooiser beats Goodyear anyday. I use Hoosier over Goodyear because Goodyears basically are not as consistent once they're broken in.

tims: I looked on the Frisbee tire website, but I didn't see any Hankook true racing slicks; I only saw DOT race tires. Can you please give me a link to their non-DOT racing tires?

PvilKnight7: were you using the exact tire I said in my first post, or is your experience with some other size and construction tire?

I currently run the Yokohama A005 slicks and I've been impressed with the life of them. I ran the edmonton grand prix and a season of time attack on basically one set. I've got a 235/40/17 up front and a 255/40/17 out back. I had been looking at the 16" options, but my big brake kit killed that possibility. I'd say go with the hoosier. You can always try the goodyears later.

I received some advice from SCCA GT-2 racers that have tried both, and all except one recommended the Goodyears.

So, I went the Goodyear route, and I am very happy with their 16" radial slicks. They warm up fast, stay consistent, and the wear rate is much lower than the bias ply slicks I used to use. I just raced last weekend at the Mitty at Road Atlanta, and I won the IMSA GTU class. Very happy with these tires. Again, I am not talking about DOT racing tires; I am talking about true road racing slicks.

I just moved up classes from it7 to EP and debated on either hoosiers or goodyears. goodyear offered more compound options so I thought that was a better decision. Plus all the front runners are on goodyears.
