hoosier R6 and hoosier DOT radial wet
I have been racing on road course here in Japan for several years, and until recently have always used advans stating about 14 years ago I used the old HFtype D's and as race seasons went by I progressed up to the AO series (AO32, 38, 48) now unfortunatly for me they no longer offer the sizes I need in 16" and I really do not want to go out and buy more rims in the 17" size.
want I need to know is who has used the advan series and the hoosiers? how do they compare in terms of handling, and treadwear? how about breakaway characteristics? I will probably be using the hoosier DOT radial wet more often than the R6 due to the fact it never fails to rain whenever I have a track day :rolleyes: and since the fees are non-refundable here (and freakin expensive) I always run regardless of weather. so how about a discussion, or any reasonable input. If you have ran the hoosier only, and not the advans then please state so in your subject line (and vice versa) I am really interested as they carry the 245's in 16 but am leary of tires I have never driven. kenn |
The Hoosiers will be better than the Advan in every regard.
The Hoosier wets will not survive unless the track is completely wet. The rubber in them is like a pencil eraser. They will overheat and be detroyed very quickly if it's not wet. A Hoosier wet will not survive in the dry. |

On that subject, what would be a good rain tire? Once I burn off the Victoracers on my stock rims, I'll be using a larger 17" wheel for the r-compounds (this assumes of course my car runs!). I'd like to put a set of wet/rain tires for the track on the stock rims. |
The Hoosier Dirt Stockers ("wets") are fastest in the rain but will not live in the dry. The rubber will also harden whether you drive on them or not; you have to keep them fresh.
Fresh Victoracers make good rain tires until the tread blocks wear off. Not as fast as the Dirt Stocker in the really wet stuff, but they don't mind when the track dries. The only other rain choices IMO are good street tires. The Kumho MX on my car have been excellent in the rain; as good or better than any other high performance street tire I've driven. If you are going to buy tires specifically for rain I'd also suggest going with a slightly narrower tire than you run in the dry. Rule of thumb is you don't switch to rain tires until you see spray coming off the cars on the racing line. |

Rule of thumb is you don't switch to rain tires until you see spray coming off the cars on the racing line. i am in the market of new tires, DamonB have you tried the goodyear gs-d3 ? i've heard bad things about the kumho MX in the rain, thats why I am leaning towards goodyear eagle F1 gs-d3, i dont really have the money to do the "testing", at least not until i am done with the first set of tires, so i wanna see if you have any opinion |

any comment on the Toyo RA1 full tread (unshaved), I have found it a quite capable transition wet to full wet track tire, and it can take dry pavement all day long......
