Hoosier or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup?

I'm in a dilemna..............whether to try to get used sets of Hoosiers for about $150 a set, and eat them up in a couple days of hot lapping (maybe 10 hours total track time), or bite the bullet and spend about a grand getting the pilot cups, putting them on once, and getting lots and lots of track time out of them. My buddy has them on his 911 and already has 25 hours on them, and tons of tread left.

Anybody out there run both? and what do you think?

TIA.

David

if you can get used hoosiers for 150 a set why not go with them? seems like a no brainer to me. you just need to get a friend who works at a tire shop to put a new set on before each track day.

why the pilot sports? have you looked into the toyo ra-1? the spec miata guys seem to run forever on those things. not as fast as a hoosier but plenty of stick for DE's. kumho makes some pretty good r comps for not alot of $$ also, just make sure you have them shaved.

With a lighter car (like our FD's), the V700's last very long .... even during DE/hot lapping events. My current set has over 100+ auto-x runs and 2 time trial events on them (they're about done now). For the money, the V700 is hard to beat ...

Hoosiers are definitely the fastest R-compound out there. But at $150/set, I imagine that they're pretty worn and aren't worth more than an event or two. Hoosiers' grip is like a step function .... it's really grippy for so many passes and then it's gone.

The Michelins seem to get really good treadwear reviews on Tirerack. So, I'd assume they're like the RA1's ... good road race tire, but definitely not for setting FTD's.
