Has anyone removed the front cross brace the oil coolers mount to?

This is for an 88 convertible, so it has some extra bracing around the chassis and I am trying to save weight where I can.
I have it fully stripped and am looking over the bare chassis to see where I can save weight. Right now I am eyeing the trunk pan/ spare tire well area and possibly the front cross bar and then go dual oil coolers on either side instead.
I can find other places to mount the horn, relays, etc...

I can tell by how its welded it seems structural, but looking at other unibody chassis in general I don't always see that spot with such a heavy crossmember.

I was wondering if anyone has removed it and had any ill effects. The car will remain light, going to lizardskin the interior and keep it as stripped as possible.

Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks!

I have removed it and installed twin oil coolers. A small frame mounts the coolers and it works as I planned. Each cooler has a Spal thermofan and it’s own temperature sensor which I buy as a package very convenient . I have also removed the spare wheel well and trunk floor it cut to accommodate a 100 litre fuel cell.

Thank you for the feedback. That is more or less my plan as well. (I am down to almost just the bare chassis and those two spots are the easiest/safest to cut out for a few more lbs)
Did you add any other front end bracing to make up for it, or do you think the subframe ties it together well enough?
I was worried without that welded bar it will transfer more side to side twist into the subframe mounts or similar but wasn't sure.
Long term stress and whatnot.

Apart from the frame for the coolers no. I do have a strut brace but I feel the crossmember along with the brace and frame is fine. My car is a full circuit car, I push hard and it’s been fine.

Thank you very much for the info! That helps me decide my available directions for the car.
