GPS data acqusition system
 

I am interested in acquiring a GPS data acquisition system for track days.
They are a bit pricey but seem to be a great toy/tool for improving lap times.

Does anyone have one of these or others? Any feedback?

I have the MaxQData system.

I haven't used it in about a year.

The nice thing that it has over the competitors is a yaw rate sensor. Other than that a lot of the other systems come with more useful software.

What do you plan to be able to get out of it?

From my experience if you don't have a ton of time to really dedicate to going through the data and analyzing you will not get much out of it.

I've played with it and when I upgrade that's still what I plan to buy.

If you're just interested in driver improvement Geez! will still get you everything for less than half the price. Accurate track maps are over emphasized IMO. You don't want track maps, you want data. The map just gives you a picture to look at to help jog your memory. The map in and of itself provides you with absolutely nothing.

The Nology system looks pretty interesting but I can't find any cost information.

It looks like a simple USB data logger. You can get USB GPS, USB Accelerometer, and USB 16 channel A/D converters easily for about $75 each. If you had some small processor that could log any data on a USB bus to a SD or MMC chip, you would have essentially duplicated the Nology hardware.

The software is fairly straightforward, I am looking into building my own GPS/accelerometer dataloger but I will be using a cheap laptop for data collection because I haven't seen a generic USB data recorder yet.

Nology might be in serious trouble if they haven't reformatted their data so that I can't use their software and my data collected with my own hardware (it looks like they allow free downloading of their software).

Unless of course the Nology hardware is extremely reasonably priced. Generic hardware purchased separately should total out at about $400.
