A Good Pad with low dust & good cold stopping?
Your opinions on a good pad with low dust and a good cold pad that wont kill my rotors.
I tried the Bonez pads from RX7.com... too dusty and not that much greater than stocks My buddy uses the HP+ and they dust like crazy and work like crazy. Is there a pad you guys recommend with these attributes? |
hawk hps?
meant for street but i'm using OEM for now...prbly give the hps a try wen the time comes |
I've used Hawk;HP, HP+, EBC; RED, Green, Carbotech; panther plus, XP. Of all of these I would use the EBC greens on the street, no dust, no fade ever(even on the track), stop well at colder temps, and almost no rotor wear. Carl Byck

EBC Greens it is then. My buddy Auto-X and road races and said the same thing. thanks.

I loved the Greens on my Vette but they dusted like crazy. The cold stopping power was worth it though IMO.

I saw somewhere on the forum that the 99+ oem pads were REALLY good and fit on the 93-95 cars.
I think it was SleepR1 that was talking about it a long time ago Anyone have any info on that or has anyone tried it? STEPHEN |
porterfield pads are pretty good. I had hawks and wasn't very impressed. I've been running the RS4s on my fd for a while. They work well on the street and stop very well on the autoX course. They don't dust any worse than stock pads. The only drawback is they are a little expensive.

CLudwig, the EBCs really shouldn't dust on the street, unless of course you drive as if you are on the track. When pushed on the track the EBCs wear very quickly(1.5-2hours), thus the dust. on the street at lower operating temps they lasted 15000 miles on my 97 Supra TT. I really think on an FD they should not dust on the street. Best regards, Carl Byck

'99 Type RS brake pads made by Sumitomo. They're outstanding cold or hot. Dust was minimal. Much better than any aftermarket pad out there. You'd need to go with Porterfield R4E or Carbotech Panther Plus to get better track braking performance. If you're like me and want only ONE SET OF PADS to do autocross, street driving and occasional track lapping events, then the '99 Type RS Sumitomo pads are for you! You must use these in sets of four, so don't cheap out and get just the fronts, ok!!?? BTW, you'll get the Type RS caliper M-springs with the front pads. Keep these, as they might be worth sending to me in an envelope (I have the Type RS rotors calipers all the way around :) ) Yes the Type RS pads will fit the US-spec calipers...

EBC Red Stuffs SUCK ASS. Don't buy them for track lapping. I melted a set in ONE DAY! I have EBC Greenstuffs for road/autocross use, but ever since I've switched to Type RS pads (from Sumitomo), I haven't needed the Greenstuffs...yeah the Sumitomo Type RS pads are THAT GOOD :)

Where does one get the Sumitomo pads?
|
I ordred from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development. They're not cheap. $170 for the fr/rr set, as I recall?
