Gas shocks?? How can I stay in stock class, but update my car?
 

I'm trying to get my 88 tII into autox racing condition, but want to stay in the B stock class.

I understand your not aloud to get stiff springs, but does this mean that you have to run on 15 yo springs??? What kindof aftermarket springs can i get and not break any rules?

I know i cannot get adjustable shocks, but I want to stiffin up my suspension as much as possible in this area. Any suggestions?? I thought some cheap gas shocks would help, but I've heard of some people using oil shocks???

Bushings?? Where can i get a set for cheap?

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

no aftermarket springs.

But you can hit up mazda for new springs.

You can get adjustable shocks.. I run Koni single adjustables, but others have had good success with KYB AGX or Tokicos..

Bushings aren't legal except stock OEM replacements. Still not a bad idea.

you can get shocks as long as they don't have more than two adjustable settings. you can do full exhaust from turbo back, you can not add/remove/modify your rear strut bar, but you can add a front bar. you can replace your stock springs with oem replacements but can not use aftermarket ones. wheels must remain stock width/height (don't have to be stock but must stay within 5mm of the original offset). ah hell, look at this link.

For stock class:
you can NOT do Turbo back exhaust but you CAN do the Cat back.
You can NOT add a strut bar.
All bushings must be OEM. Springs too.
Front sway bars are free but you can't mess with the back.

yes, but oem stuff is expensive!!!! I'm not rich!! lol where can i get "hydrolic shocks"?? i need to stiffin some

sucks because i have the hookup on dot approved racing tires, some aftermarket springs, and such. But I want to stay competative autoxing. My buddies race fc's as well, they are in b prepared. And usually have ftd!!! I don't want to compete with them!!! I don't have the money!! what can i do?

Things you are allowed to change and stay in "stock":
front sway bar
brake pads
shocks
cat-back exhaust
DOT racing tires
all fluids (tranny, diff, brake)
air filter element (same dimensions as stock filter)
Everything else must be stock, OEM replacement, etc.

Don't forget wheels that are the same OEM diameter and width and within +/- 0.25" of OEM offset.

IMO, you do not NEED to upgrade springs to stay competitive in auto-x. The shocks, front swaybar, brake pads, and race rubber (once driving skills necessitate them) are the important factors. Everything else comes down to YOU being faster than the next guy. :)

yeah, that's what i love about autox, the strongest car isn't necisarrily the fastest. I'm working on honing my skills as we speak, but I wan't to put myself in a situation where I'm seeing eye to eye (so to speak) with other stock competitors. Instead of trying to catch mr2 turbo's with slicks and shocks like what is probably going to happen.

I'm probably going to be running some gxl 15" rims on my car unless I can find some convertable bbs rims (they are lite!!!) with some 225/50's on them. I figure the shorter rims will also help gear me down for better acceleration.
