Flat Blacking Dashboard

one thing i've always hated is dash glare. i've noticed that almost every pro racing gt, rally, and sportscar have dashes coated flat black to eliminate glare. before reinstalling my dash, i wanted to do something similar. has anyone ever done this or knows what these race teams use to accomplish it, other than a couple of cans of flat black spray paint? i'm imagining their's is more of a coating than a paint.

they use alcantar fabric usually on the fancy race cars.

thanks. i kind of figured it was a bit more involved.

that's going to take quite a few mice to cover the dash.

Get yourself a can of flat black Krylon. It's hard to make flat black paint look bad, and it's easy to redo if you get a scratch in the finish.

The skin stretches pretty well and covers more than you would think. :)

Found this on ebay:

fabric is out. i'd rather spend my time on something important so i'll just spray it. i'm going to see if i can find a black rubberized spray, perhaps the black bumper coating that i used on my 79's interior panels. the dash is already black so it isn't going to show f ups as much.

Whatever you use, prep the dash first with a stripper to remove armour-all or other waxy plasticizers that will prevent the paint from sticking.

I learned that when my friend's younger brother tried to rice out his Sebring coupe and spray-bombed most of his interior pieces (including dashboard) with bright white. Within days the paint peeled off in scabby ragged sticky sections.

hmmm, i haven't armoralled the dash since i've had the car. i'd be afraid stripper(s) would eat into the dash.

I'm thinking he means a degreaser rather than a stripper. Brakleen is probably the most useful universal cleaner, but there are also paint cleaners like Acryliclean, etc., that would do fabulously.

Just wipe it down with isopropyl alchohol then spray.
