First time @ Thunderhill, 2:13s!

First time @ Thunderhill, 2:13s! This is unofficial timing(stopwatch) Went to the track this weekend with the drifters, and some road racers(seperate tracks). The event was sponsored by K2RD. The event was similar to a NASA event in format. In the morning we only ran 1-7(original configuration). In the afternoon we ran the full course. WOW! This is a fast track! We saw 125-130mph on the front straight, and 80-85 in T2, a fast 180* sweeper! This track is alot more fun to drive fast on than Sears(look ma, no walls), you spend more time looking for ways to go fast, and less time worrying about the walls.I have alot to learn here, as I was off line often, and way too slow from 6-8. All in all it was a fun event with 5-20 minute runs, all for 125.00! If these guys do this again, I would recommend it as a great value. In addition to the track time, it was a very nice group of people. This event was a little on the informal side, but all saftey rules were strictly enforced, with Dave Vodden threatening a 100.00 charge for off track adventures requiring a tow(I don't think they actually charged anyone). Anyway, I was pleased with my times as this was my first time on the full track. I look forward to meeting other Norcal racers this year, if your headed to an event, or know of one at Thunderhill or Sears drop me a line and maybe I'll see you there. Best regards, Carl Byck:D

They're good guys. John's on the Forum as fluxen. Did you see their event announcement for Sebring? They're renting a car transporter for West Coast people-- now that's a great idea!

Cossie 01-27-03 02:06 AM

wOW....THATS interesting! Should consider it

fluxen 02-06-03 11:39 AM

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know on our Thill event *this weekend*, Saturday is almost empty. 5 x 30 minute run sessions and we're running it *backwards* with the cyclone. Many of the OTC guys are coming to this event for cheating bastard practice, so check it out:

http://www.speedventures.net/2-8-2003_event.asp

There will be some very interesting cars there, so you may want to drop by if you're close, whether you run or not...

TracQuest events are really good. Everyone that goes tends to get a lot of track time. The only thing is that a lot of our cars are too loud to be on laguna lol!

Where exactly IS thunderhill. I've got a buddy that lives in Sacramento with an S2000 that I'm trying to talk into doing some Road Racing. Told him to go to Sears Point but now you guys are saying Thunderhill is better.

Lemme know and thanks. Then, btw, I'm counting on you guys to hook up with him and wax his ass with an FD (our ongoing debate).........lol

MrZUMZUM 02-19-03 08:17 AM

BTW, I run at Sebring if you guys want any info.

MrZUMZUM 02-19-03 08:18 AM

I also ran at RA Jan 11-12 and that was sick.

MrZUMZUM 02-19-03 08:18 AM

Oh yeah, I guess my Avatar's my proof. Forgot I had that.

Mr ZumZum,

Thunderhill is about 80 miles north of Sac, straight shot on I5 to Willows, CA.

It's better in that it's less likely to run into something hard if you have an offcourse excursion (walls only on the main and back straights).

Have your friend check out Northern California Racing Club, www.ncracing.org, they have an event at T-hill next month, but it's on a friday. If he can't get out of work, have him look at NASA, www.nasaproracing.com, they have an event at T-hill April 5/6, I'll be at that one for sure. I'm not sure if I'm going to make the NCRC event.

hey carl, do you run a FMIC? IF so, did you experience any heating problems on the track?

in2twins 02-20-03 10:39 AM

Yes I run an FMIC, keep in mind I have an FC. I use an old style HKS, it is only about half the height of a new style Greddy, or HKS. Cooling mods are as follows;
Huge custom griffin radiator
custom AST
dual stock oil coolers
remove hood insulation
rear of hood cantilevered up 1.5"
all accessories removed from in front of radiator/IC (overflow bottle etc.)
cut away front bumper cover/bumper support to give me an opening 24"x4" placed similar to the opening on the GTC bumper but much larger.
2 bottles water wetter
straight water for coolant
This yields me track temps of 190 oil measured at the filter block, and 190 water measured after the thermostat(right after it leaves the engine). Carl

sounds good, post some pics of your ride man

in2twins 02-21-03 11:41 AM

The car is pretty ugly right now, I am doing a widebody conversion so the car is all apart. I will post some pics ina week or so as the project progresses. See ya for now, Carl
