first gen wheel widths 13x10? autocrosser
 

does anyone have experiance with wide 13 inch wheels?
I have a set of 13x7 4in backspace that work fine.
I have a 15x10 with a 5 inch backspace and it fits pretty good but Id like to have 13x9 or 13x10 wheels.

Im worried that the tie rod ends or the steering arm will be in the way. It appears there is about 2 to 2.5 inches between the 13x7 and possibly contacting those parts but I cant tell by looking under the car if 13x9 or 13x10 would contact it or just barely go around it.

I guess drag wheels might not be a bad idea for autocross?

I assume those 13x10's you have are drag wheels, right? I haven't really seen a road wheel made in that size.

I can't help you :( but I do have a question for you:
speaking of 15's where did you get the ones you have? would you know a good place to get a cheap set of 15x7's or 15x8's?

BlackFire Hopefully you have 4x114mm SE bolt pattern or its really hard to find wheels unless their steel wheels or really expensive custom aluminium wheels.

diamond racing wheels is where I got the 15x10's. A 5 inch backspace will work but you will have to use a spacer to move the tire away from the springs.

4.5 backspace might work better but you would end up having more tire sticking out of the wheel well.

for cheek check out aero racing wheels. if your looking for 13's
they have an overstock section. I have a set of these in 13x7 and really like them.

for 15x7 or 15x8's check out rota or drag wheels. their light and fairly decent wheels for the street. I dont know that Id race on them though. I have a set of

I want the rims because I have access to 205/55ZR15 BFG GeForces and I want to give 'em try :)

with a 55 tall tire in a 15 you may have rubbing.
check it the diameber differance on a tire size calculator somewhere.

Make sure that if you do some track days (i.e. circuits, road courses), that you stay away from drag wheels. They're not designed to take much side load and the last thing you want is a wheel breaking mid-corner.

actually that reminds I watched someone break a cheap aftermarket wheel at Loudon (NHMS) last week... no wonder stock rims cost lol

How far does a 10 inch wheel stick out?

Here a couple of options for wheels:

Cheap - www.diamondracingwheels.com
Expensive - www.realwheel.net

Both of these wheel compaines make great wheels. I have a set of Diamonds and they are just fine. Likewise the Real wheels are well built and are the lighter of the two options.

Both companies will make a 13x9 - 13x10 with a 4x110 lug pattern. Regardless of width, 4" of back spacing is ideal. That said, we have found that on a 13x7" wheel that have 4" of back spacing it is necessary to run 1/8" to 1/4" spacers on the front when using Hoosiers R6's. The extra thick sidewalls on the Hoosiers rub the tie rod ends. Not an issue with Kumhos.

You can pick a little tire rod to tire clearance by running GForce Turn in spacers that have increased Ackerman. These move the tie rods in board a little. They are ideal for autocross.

As far as fender clearance is concerned, if you run a short tire you should be fine. for instance a Hoosier 225/14x13 is just under 21" tall. I have seen the Hoosier Autocross bias ply tire in that size on 13x9's on a first gen. Didn't stick out too bad at all.

I have 13x9's on my autox car - currently with 225/45-13 Hoosier A6's mounted. The fenders are no problems but the inner liner keeps getting busted up.
