Fiberglass fenders for autox?
 

I am building an 86 base for autox, track days, and street driving. I want to run 255's all the way around but we all know the problems with the lack of room in the front fenders. A guy lives near me is selling a set of corksport wide front fenders for a good price, but I am concerned on whether or not they will be able to stand up to the abuse that it will see at the autox. So I was wondering if anyone here has expierence with them. I should also say that I currently have 2 super clean stock front fenders on the car, so if I can get away with running flares let me know. And please don't knock for not putting this in the extierior section. I figured the people I need to talk to are in here more than there.

i dont see any structural strength in front fenders. I run an ITS car with stock fenders per legality rules. i would guess that the glass should last, I dont see a whole lot of abuse on fenders, not a lot of forces acting there anyhow....just my 2 cents...good luck on track!!!

Really I guess that I was most concerned with autox than anything else. I'm just afraid that hitting a cone with one of the fenders might cause it to crack.

Stock fenders with flares=C Street Prepared
Fiberglass=Street Mod 2, F or X Prepared, E Mod

Just be aware before you get bumped into a faster auto X class.

It all depends, thin fenders will crack, thicker ones will be more durable. The advantage to fiberglass is that it's quite easily repaired. Don't worry about it, then if you crack one, just fix it.

I have the Corksport fenders on my car, I am not a big fan of them. They had fitment issues 5-6 years ago when they came out and they have fitment issues as of now too. If I were going to do it again I would try the Race-On fenders, they are cheaper and have a better fit.

I am running 255's on the front right now and it "looks" like 275 could fit with an adjustment of the back-spacing on the wheels

When you say flares are allowed in CSP, you mean something like these?

They would be legal on the rear too I would assume?

Yes, flared/modified stock fenders are allowed, replacement fenders aren't allowed in CSP. So yes, that style of rivet/glue on fender flares are legal, but something like the Corksport widebody fenders aren't.

I have been running fiberglas fenders on my 1st gen GTU road racer for a decade now, and they should holdup to hitting a pylon. It's when you hit the hard stuff that they may crack. Repairing cracked fiberglas is not that hard to do.

I figure the front bumper or tire would be hit by cones and not the fenders.
