FD feels loose during hard cornering

Whenever I go into the corner hard, the car feels unstable and switches from understeer to oversteer. I have my coilovers set to full stiff and running about 35psi in all tires. Car is swapped with an LS2, but is corner weighted and almost perfect weight distribution.

Here's my suspension modlist:

CCW Classics 18x11 and 18x10
Hankook RS-2 315/30/18 and 265/35/18 Tires
Buddy Club D1 Coilovers
Tanabe Front Sway bar
Stock Rear Sway bar
Mazdatrix Front Sway Bar End Links
Widefoot Racing Sway Bar Mounts
Rotary Extreme Toe Links
Nylon Differential and Trailing Arm Bushings
R1 Front Strut Tower Bar
Raceshop Chromoly 4 Point Rollbar
Hinson Bump Steer Correction

Maybe I should go with a stiffer sway bar in the rear? What do you guys think?

What are your alignment settings?

Which part of the corner?

During or after braking? ( trail braking? )

How much throttle?

I haven't had any real track time yet because I'm still breaking my motor in, I've just been testing it on the streets and highway ramps. Forgot to mention that it does this at higher speeds 60mph+

Seems to start right in the beginning of the corner and keeps switching from understeer to oversteer rigth until I start exiting the corner, braking or getting on the throttle. Something just doesn't feel right.

35psi is a lot of tire pressure, unless that's a hot tire pressure number. try something like 28F and 26R set COLD.

also full stiff is probably wrong too, try some softer settings.

also a little rear toe in will add stability

I agree on the rear toe. Also, soften the rear to reduce oversteer. Adding a performance swaybar to the rear of the car will only increase the oversteer.

If the issue is not so much the oversteer, but the erratic nature of bouncing between over/understeer, then start looking for loose suspension components (tie rods, ball joints, etc.).

Best of luck. :)

I had the same problem with my new shocks. The car handled fine before that. My problem was the rebound was set too stiff which meant the tire took to long to come back down .This created a very loose car on entry and a big push on exit. Out of 20 settings (20 was stiffest) I had it at 18 and at 11 it was a totally different car. When asessing the handling do it with part throttle and light braking on turn in as those inputs may cloud your assessment of the car.

If your car is very low it may also be bottoming out.

Is your hinson bump-steer an early or late version?

Forced_Induction 01-22-11 05:12 AM

I thought the problem might have something to do with my damper settings. I'll have to try out some different settings after the car comes out of winter storage.

I have no idea. How can you tell?
