FC Understeering

I'm running into some pretty intense understeer during autocross.

Any easy ways to get the car more neutral without buying parts? I've removed more weight from the rear than the front. That may play a part (I would expect the opposite effect though).

I was running 40 psi all around (street tires), I'm thinking I should try less pressure in the fronts and more in the rear.

Any suggestions?

Try slowing down. braking and acceleration points are very important. Also use a little trail braking and ensure that your line is correct. Other than that adjusting ride hieght and balance of the car can affect how the weight transfers.

the tire pressure may help, but without a bunch of adjustable ssuspension parts you are kinda stuck with the natural tendencies of the car. trail braking can help to rotate the car

I thought 2nd gens had a tendency to oversteer? And that a lot of racesr don't run rear anti-sway bars to counteract this?

I can only think of one production car that oversteered as delivered from the factory(early eighties porsche 930). production car geometry tends to make the cars understeer for safety's sake. after people lower the cars and add larger sway bars and better shocks the car may start to oversteer(sometimes caused by the rear steer setup), but as a general rule in stock trim they will understeer.

ive seen that theres a kit to remove the factory set understeer from the rear suspension. does anyone know exactly what it changes?

Bigger rear bar will do the job but if that's not allowed go back to slowing down. I can make any car look like the set up is totally fucked up just by driving it wrong.

Don't ask the front tires to do more than they can. Wait till you are unwinding the steering input BEFORE you add throttle. If the car tends to understeer just know you can't get acceleration while you are trying to rotate the car.

Slow into the turn- fast out. Write that on a piece of tape and put it where you can read it in the car.

40psi cold? Good grief thats a lot...

What springs are you running? What bars? Is the car lowered at all? Front to rear reduction?

If you can change ride height. Taking rake out of it will help understeer. What front camber are you running?

Before you start messing with tire pressures, shock settings, and bar stiffness, work on alignment and ride height changes...lowering the car can actually make a car go from understeer to oversteer.

Aside: S2000 overseers from the factory...thats why they are constantly getting wadded up by kids...

That might be the DTSS eliminators allowing a fixed rear toe setting...

There's a lot of messed up misinformation in this thread. Please allow it to die again. :)

trail brake

less front pressure

more front tire

more camber
