FC turbo II can I run it in SCCA?
 

I am planning on building up a second gen for scca club racing, but I cant find out if turbo cars are allowed. I know I can run emod in sollo 2 events and I can run NASA, but what places can I race with a modified turbo 2?

If you guys need any more detail let me know, I just basically want to find out if turbos are not allowed, since a local race car shop said it wasnt allowed

Yes. You'll probably fall into a category like Super Production or ITE. Different regions have different ways of classing cars such as this and the best way to find out what class you'll actually run in and what you'll be up against is to talk to those in charge of the regions that will host the events you plan to run.

Since there isn't really a class for any turbo car to run in (with the new exception of Touring which the TII doesn't fall in) you'll be put in a catch all class. Though in my understanding this is Super Production some regions also call it ITE. Though ITE, again in my understanding, is really meant for any car that is not specifically classified in IT but are built to IT prep rules. So at that point the waters become a bit muddled.

Short story, yes you can run and the only thing that is really "required" are safety mods per the GCR. The long answer is that what class you will run in depends. Contact your local region.

Good luck with your car! Though I currently campaign a 2G ITS car I have a nice spare shell that is begging for Production prep with a stout turbo motor to run Super Production.

I thought that there was only normally aspirated cars in SCCA....with the exception of Solo and NASA...

ITE is really a catchall class for cars prepared to other series' rules. It's a place for you to run your old world challenge challenge, grand am cup etc car. The whole SP thing is all gooey and seems to vary quite a bit from region to region.

FWIW, I believe there is a TII ITE car in the Washington DC region.

Absolutely not. Club Racing is just like Solo in that as long as the car is safe they'll find a place for your to run. I've seen plenty of turbo cars run just never really paid attention to what class.

If you want to run with the SCCA for certain go to your division's website and take a look at the race calendar. Find out which region is hosting the races you'd most like to attend. Contact those regions directly. Since regional or even national events are put on by individual regions there are sometimes run just a little bit differently.

For club racing you will need to go to Super Production. It is a ragional class.
The bad part... You will need to meet all the safety requirements for that class.

Picture a trans am car... like a Corvette with a small 300ish cubic inch motor. Fast car.. you have seen the trans am races on TV..... Now picture putting a 500 cubic inch twin turbo in it.. and run that on the track.... THAT is what you will compete against.

A modded TII will NOT be compettitive against prolly half the field... Half will be cars with no-where to go.. and will be Slooooooow..... the other half will be things like a GT1 Camaro with a 454 Drag motor in it.. that the owners are breaking in/testing. (Seen it at the track LOL)

Basically.. Full cage no interior.. race seat.. belts.. fuel cell. cutoff.. window net.. no side windows, no mechanisms permitted.. clips on front and rear glass, fire system, etc etc etc.

You will have to have a fully prepped no-shit race car.

Sooooooo.. If it is a Well made street car like 90+ percent of the forum cars.. and you add a cage.. stay with track events like Chin Motorsports.. and Safe. You will keep a NICE street car that can go to the track. If you are like some of the others here where Street is just a footnote.. (no side windows etc) you can have a full prep race car.. and keep a tag on it.
Noo you will not take it to the mall and leave it parked etc.. not out in the rain.. no stereo.. etc.

Been trying to balance that debacle.. and it is TOUGH. THe 20B car is going to end up realistically as a Street/Track events car. It will have some interior and side windows etc. It will be a street car in the end.. that is strong on the track. BUt I dont think it will end up a full on track car in SPO etc.
My EP car? Full race. I am actually going to finish the car for track only.. THEN make a simple harness to add to the basic one I will create, that will allow me to drive on the street. YES it will be a PITA to use.. and No I will not be able to go to the mall nor park it un attended.. but it will be legal.. sorta.

The easiest thing you could do to circumvent the rules..... Put a cage in the car. Race seat, Windshiels clips, harness.. and then get a Log book with it as an ITS car.. (Oh yeah put in a N/A motor for the tech inspection) THEN... after you have the log book.. put back in the Turbo motor etc.. and then when at the track just run the IT car in a higher class.. if they let you.

If you want to go club racing, start with a class with guys that you can run with. It's no where NEAR as much fun running by yourself in a class, compared to 40 car fields.
