This comes from my hometown of Los Angeles. Paul Walkers Service announcement is cheezy, and I want to kick that kid's balls and cut off his hands so he can't drive ANYTHING!!!!

California Speedway @ Fontana has street LEGAL dragracing on their facility. Organized, safe with concrete walls lining the track so you won't run overl onlookers, and asaftey vehicle.

I'd suggest looking into it.

A new phase in the NHRA Street Legal Racing program at California Speedway’s quarter-mile Street Legal Drag Strip, California Dragway, will be ushered in on Saturday, May 10th, with the first-ever nighttime event.

With recent approval from the San Bernardino County Planning Commission, the Speedway will illuminate the strip with temporary lighting to cover the quarter-mile. In addition, lights will be brought in to brighten the paddock (Lot 2) and spectator parking areas (Lot 3). The Speedway is also scheduled to add new scoreboards for each lane. The installation of the scoreboards will begin upon receipt of the shipment and may not be in place for the initial running on May 10th.

The Summer Saturday Night Schedule also includes May 31 and June 14. The summer schedule hits high gear in July with three consecutive Saturday nights of racing – July 12, 19 and 26. The summer round concludes with “Hot August Nights” each Saturday night in August – 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Technical inspection begins at 3:00 p.m., with racing set to begin at 5:00 p.m. Admission to enter the speedway is $10 per person and the cost to purchase a Tech Card to race is an additional $10. All racing will conclude by 11:00 p.m.

“This is a new and important phase for the growth and development of the Street Legal Racing program at California Dragway,” said Speedway President Bill Miller. “Racing at night will provide some relief to the high temperatures we encountered last year during the day. In addition, we continue to get feedback from law enforcement that a night program will help lessen the illegal street racing activity in the area. We appreciate the efforts of San Bernardino County officials in working with us on this project.”

street legal drag racing is not the same as street "racing". street legal drags allow people to bring their street legal cars and race them on a closed drag strip not on public streets like the street "racers". street "racing" is the dumbest thing anyone can do with a car. Last night I saw a kid killed himself hitting a power pole while "racing" his SUV. several thousand people were without power for several hours(hope there were no hospitals or medical equipment affected). unfortunately these "racers" tend to kill innocent bystanders more often then themselves. try to take advantage of events like the ones mentioned above or similair low cost performance events available around the country to test yourself and your car without endangering others. sorry for the rant, but this a sore subject with me.

What I really meant to say is that these dumb kids who think they can race anywhere anytime just makes it harder for people like us who have mods to even make it to the race track without getting a ticket, impounded or whatevers.

this is why I drive my tow vehicle to work every day and trailer my race car to the track. then race the car on the track and trailer it home. I don't seem to have any problems with law enforcement impounding my race car under these circumstances.

well not everybody has a tow vechile to haul their cars around!

I like to drive fast. I rarely race another car. When I do it's on the highway when there are very few cars around.
It's sad to hear stories of young, inexperienced people doing stupid things because they want to emulate some movie stunt. But you must also understand that these young people are the new generation of hot-rodders, and due to the high increase in population density accidents will claim innocent victims.
They should take their racing to the track, industrial parks or country roads where they will not hurt anybody but themselves.

I agree. street "racing" is NOT racing in any way. How hard is it to just get an autoX license, or a road racing license, or go to a local drag night or something if they want to go fast. All that Light-to-Light shit is the stupidest thing ive ever seen.

You have to also understand though that prolly 60%, at the least, of all street racers are not interested in racing there cars on a track or Auto-X or Strip or whatever. To most of them it is just an ego thing. They want to have an image and unfortunately the track environment does not attract enough attention from the people they want to impress. The fact of the matter is that people like that who want to fly by two 17 year old kids in their civic with there brand new vette as a show of power and superiority. Or a little brake stand at the lights to impress the two hotties in the drop top beside them. That alone is worth more to them than a whole day at the track. It a mentality that is unfortunate but true. Also the fact is that out of the 60%, I'm willing to bet that less then 10% of them have the skills or ability to even make good at a track. Another reason why they stay away. Its not cool to get owned by the little gutted Nissan NX after you just dropped 50 large on a brand new Supra. For that 60%, there is no hope, and they will continue to tarnish the hobby for the rest of us. The other 40% I'm not to worried about. Because if they are anything like me, they will hit the track for the first time and never turn back. They will relies how lame it is to sit in a parking lot when the vast majority of people there are driving mommy and daddy's Maxama with street glow, fighting over who's stock Honda will win against the other. Or how many kills they have now that they got a brand new exhaust. And boasting there supposed horsepower gains now that there imaginary turbo is installed. Street racing sucks!...

yeah, I agree. There are those who love speed and skill and there are those who seek attention.

There's a difference between street racing and speeding. I never street race, but I'll admit I speed quite a bit. That's what pisses me off about these punk kids... Because of them, if I get nailed going 45 in a 35 zone, I'm a "street racer" because I have an RX-7 and a RSX. If I were driving a MINIVAN doing the EXACT same thing, I'd probably only get a warning.

i like to street race, but to an extent. like most of the time to 50, or 40mph. and only when there is no on coming traffic, and the roads are clear. but it is really stupid. it just gets your adreniline pumping and is a good felling. not to harm other people though.

Many people talk about seeking out these supposedly "safe" country roads to do stupid things on. I happen to have been a competitive bicyclist in college. You know what? Cyclists also like country roads because they are trying to get away from idiot drivers. One of my teammates in college was killed by such a driver. Just because you haven't seen any cyclists on the road yet doesn't mean they won't be there in the future.

Don't be an idiot. Most country roads I know don't provide any kind of decent visibility around the bends.. Please don't get some delusion that driving irresponsibly on country roads is somehow safe.. There are still people who use them for legal purposes and your jackassery may kill them.

Sorry if I'm upsetting some member with a good reputation, but this is crap. If it's not a controlled environment, it's selfish, stupid, and illegal.

this is the type of thinking that gets innocent people killed and draws the attention of law enforcement. every sentence is filled with stupid statements that encourages street "racing". you rarely race on the street, so you DO street "race"? you only "race" on the highway when there are FEW people? what if the little old lady or the kid who got his license yesterday is one of the FEW and decides to change lanes while you are "racing" your buddy down the highway? DrPJM1 I hope you only have a near miss and no one gets hurt and you finally realise that this type of behaviour will only cause injury. I have known friends with your attitude and non are around to tell there story of crashing and death. I have an open invitation to anyone who wants to see what its like on the track to show up to an event we are racing at and experience it for themselves. on me!

Listen people: I am the 1st one to agree that street racing is dangerous & should not be condoned but you have to agree that we all like to drive fast smart.

I ride my bicycle on country roads (an old Bridgestone X03 & a carbon fiber Trek road bike) & would hate to be killed by an idiot driver. I would not speed on a road where I can't see what's next (ex: tall corn).

I have raced people on the highway but only if there are no cars in front to get on our way (it gets deserted on the hwy around here, hence the population density comment).

Finally, I enjoy the track immensely but will continue to drive fast where I can without endangering my fellow human beings. I hope you can accept my point of view and the fact that I have not used expletives nor colorful adjectives.

Now let me tell you about my frequent 150mph+ forays in a deserted local hwy...the last one being with a police officer in my passenger seat @ 165mph!

Again when a squirrel crosses the road in front of you and you go out of control at 165mph. I hope that you have scanned the horizon for other people, so when you crash it does not involve innocent people trying to get on with their lives. 165 mph on a public road is just plain stupid and is not "driving fast safe". there is no argument that will ever convince me that driving like this on the street is ever safe. Last night two more Hondas involved in a "street race" crashed on a very well populated street here in the LA area. You will do what you want, I just hope your carelessness doesn't cause someone elses death or injury. maybe you will see this is wrong before someone gets hurt.

I would suggest that you talk PM jimlab regarding a situation involving a good friend of his (his best friend I think...) and his yellow RX-7. If I remember correctly, his best friend did a high speed run on an empty road. The result...he lost his life. A picture of the wrecked RX-7 still floats on this forum every so often. Just a subtle reminder...
