Entry level auto cross set up. Please check my list. fc3s noob
Not new to cars, been messing with them for over 10+ years now.
However this is my first rx7 and not sure where It needs help and where it doesnt. this is also the first time im doing auto cross planning so please bear with me. This car will see acouple auto cross a year but 100% daily driven. So reliable parts are priority. 1988 turbo 2 rx7 completely stock now but it does have basic bolt on mods. Im starting with suspension first, heres the plan. 1. full OEM bushing/ refresh as ive been told poly are bad? 2. Stance coilover. (looking for mainly entry level./cheaper side) (which will also replace pillow ball and add camber plates) 3. sway bar Are there worth it now? or should I just hold off on these. 4. Strut bar. mazda trix front and rear strut link These I saw and curious if it would actually help anything or just very minimal that im better of spending money elsewhere Rear: Ultra racing - 4 point rear strut bar. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RACING-4-POINT-REAR-UPPER-STRUT-ANTI-ROLL-BAR-86-91-MAZDA-RX7-RX-7-FC-FC3S-/180721382782?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ARX-7&hash=item2a13d5757e&vxp=mtror is a 2 point enough for the rear? http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RACING-1-PC-SOLID-STEEL-REAR-STRUT-TOWER-BAR-BRACE-86-91-MAZDA-RX-7-FC3S-/181092782808?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ARX-7&hash=item2a29f892d8&vxp=mtrultra racing - 2 point, interior floor cross bar http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RACING-INTERIOR-CENTER-FLOOR-CROSS-BAR-BRACE-86-91-MAZDA-RX-7-RX7-FC3S-FC-/170944397664?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ARX-7&hash=item27cd148160&vxp=mtrultra racing - rear lower arm bar suspension brace http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RACING-REAR-LOWER-TIE-BAR-ARM-CROSSMEMBER-BRACE-PAIR-86-91-MAZDA-RX7-FC3S-/200855724050?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ARX-7&hash=item2ec3ef2012&vxp=mtrultra racing - 4 point front lower ladder front brace http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RACING-4-POINT-FRONT-LOWER-LADDER-BAR-BRACE-86-91-MAZDA-RX7-RX-7-FC3S-/200956870592?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec9f67fc0&vxp=mtr |
I think you are on the right track with #1. Go thru the suspension and make sure everything is fresh and tight. Strut links are in this category. Then get a suspension alignment.
Make sure the rest of the car is reliable, especially the cooling system. I come from an FD where cooling is really important. Then go drive! Have some instructors ride with you. See what it feels like you need from there. From my experience, tires are the best things you can do for lap times. But, they are a recurring expense. I tend to favor a good standard shock (Koni or Bilstein) over a budget coilover. The shock part of the suspension is really important. Drive some more. One change at a time. Strut bars are a subtle improvement thing, probably not measurable in lap times for most of us (maybe at the expert level). But a cool looking add on, and not too pricey. |
