Endurance Road Racing??
Does anyone know of a sanctioning body that hosts endurance racing events? I didn't find anything on the SCCA or NASA websites. Thanks

They both host enduros, or at lest I KNOW that NASA does and I'd be surprised if the SCCA doesn't. Look on your local regions schedule to find out what's available near you.

SCCA has a few big ones around the country. I think they are still running the Longest Day at Nelson Ledges in Ohio, its a 24 hr race. There is a 12 hr at Homestead. I think they run a 24 at Moroso and a 12 hr at Summit Point.
There are probably some out West as well. |
Since you are in Hickory - the SCCA runs the 13 hour "Charge of the Headlight Brigade" at VIR in November. The 'Goblins Go" is another enduro at VIR in October.
But what do you consider an "enduro"? Are you looking for an 8+ hour race or anything longer than a sprint? -bill |
looking for 8 or more hours. do they let the older cars like a my 80 or is ot only the newer cars that get to race at the Charge of the Headlight Brigade? Does anyone know which classes are allowed to compete?

What class is your "80"? Lots of teams are looking for drivers (and vice versa). Check out your local SCCA forum (you're NCR, right?) or http://www.improvedtouring.com/ late in the season if you want to pick up a ride or have openings. -b |
What class is your "80"?
RX-7 being built for IT-A |
nasa runs an enduro series, several 3 hour races and then the 25 at the end of the season

What class is your "80"? How long have you been racing? I'm surprised that you hadn't heard of the 13-hour race at VIR, it's a fairly big event. If it's a fresh car, I would (personally) stay away from the enduros - that is unless you have a frame machine and you like doing large amounts of body work ;) . The issue is that there are so many different classes and speeds of cars that the frequency of "incidents" is fairly high. The shear number of Miati out there (often 1/2 the field) doesn't help matters at all. If you do go, make sure you bring a fresh spare tranny and rear end (with all suspension brackets already welded on). Don't ask me how I know this ;) . Good luck, -b |
I think that the homestead 12 hour replaced the old 24 hour "Longest night" enduro they would do at Moroso.
