ECUs: Electromotive? Motec?
My car currently has a Microtech, and also currently doesn't run. I can't find a local tuner who will work with the Microtech. I'm being pushed towards the Electromotive set up simply because SR Motorsports is local and will both install and tune it. Paul Yaw and Speedsource both recommend Motec ECUs; and the new Motec M2R seems to have an "autotune".
What ECUs are you guys having luck with? Anybody happen to know NorCal tuners? |
all the standalone ECU's you mentioned will work fine. some have more bells and whisltes and cost more. Do some research and find some one to help you tune what you have. it will be more cost effective in the long run. for the cost of a new Motec you could transport the car to any Microtech tuner in the US and have money left.

Maybe so. But after being burned locally by two shops the idea of shipping the car somewhere isn't high on my list of things to do. I used to call Anthony@MazTech of Melbourne who I bought the Microtech from originally but I lost track of them a long, long time ago.
Can you suggest any Microtech tuners? |
^ I have ran the electramotive for a year and a half now, it has saved my engine 3 times. My car always runs hard in the cold, hot, dry, or humid. The precision the techgt offers is an engine saver, and power adder. I over boosted 3 times from 13psi to 21, and carried it out not knowing right away. I have a dyno chart with 400ft lbs tq on stock twins. The electramotive made all of the corrections and saved my engine. I would suggest getting there trigger wheel, and coils.

You can't compate Motec to Microtech. Having experience with both softwares, it's not even close
FWIW the new Haltech Platinum series software looks very good. Download it here, the new boxes come out in Jan: http://haltech.com/index.php?option=...d=56&Itemid=52 |

Totally depends on the user. If I'm a guy who gets my car tuned by a professional and never ever hooks up my laptop to the box, what do I care about the software? As long as it runs the car the way it's supposed to I doubt almost anyone could tell the difference.

Download it here, the new boxes come out in Jan: http://haltech.com/index.php?option=...d=56&Itemid=52 The features associated with the motec, at least 2 years ago when I was looking, are far beyond what the others can do. Granted I haven't had experience with either the haltech/microtech software since, but I doubt they've made it up to par with Motec especially since the V3 software came out. Further, I've never once heard of ignition troubles with a Motec. It's sporadic with the Haltechs but when they mess up, it generally costs the owner a motor. Not something I was willing to gamble on either. |
look ive used them all. they all work it all depends on who is tuning the car and what they a used to tuning with. RAY at PFS can tune any thing you have man but, i dont know wheir you live.

I beg to differ. It depends more on the application than the user. Haltech, microtech, autronic etc etc etc can't do what my motec can do and wouldn't work for my application. Regardless if I never hook up the laptop (& honestly who is going to own a standalone and NOT use it) the motec is superior to the Haltech/microtech.

im not arguing that ether. im just saying get an ecu that there tuner knows how to work with. it takes time to learn everything about the ecu and what it can do.

by the way nice car
