Ducting Question
 

On a 3rd gen RX-7 with a single turbo and no A/C system, I'm trying to get the best possible cooling with the factory nose.. a few questions.

1) Some people make a vent down where the passenger side radiator foam is to get "cold air intake". Is this providing more benefit by way of cold intake air or more detriment because of the possibility of air going around the radiator rather than through it? Perhaps it's better to seal this area off and get your cold air from somewhere else...

2) I have seen some people open up the mouth of the front bumper more with plastic or metal bits... does this really help a lot? Is there a way to do it that doesn't look ugly and screw up the lines of the car?

I have a 3rd gen with a T04S setup. Looking to get maximum air thru the nose of the car I wanted to make the opening bigger so I bought the NTech "shark mod". Just for reference I live in Florida and track my car throughout the year. I'm sure you can imagine how hot it gets down here so add beating on the car for 30-45 minutes straight. I already have the an upgraded radiator and have sealed off all the openings inside the belly pan. Keep in mind, the extra volume of air is just a supplement. You will not get low temps out of any one modification. Each mod will buy you more and more cooling efficiency. I highly recommend the opening of the nose. My nose is a couple of inches bigger ALL THE WAY ACROSS than a stock opening.

Wow those don't look bad at all! I think I"ll look into doing that to my car before the temps heat up.

Just out of curiosity since you guys both track.. what type of temps do you see at the track on the water temp?

On a hot summer day, normal aggressive street driving is about 88 Celcius... maybe spiking to 90-92 C on a long 4th gear pull.

On a hot summer day at the TRACK, even running "low" boost (about 11-12), I see around 100-102 sustained after about 20 minutes of lapping... is that normal? Is that dangerous? I start to get a little nervous any time it goes over 100.

I was on the track at VIR for 2 of the hottest days of the year. I was told that it was a couple of degrees over 100 degrees F. I ran that without any problems. My water temps never passed 210F after 30 minutes of track time.
