drifting parts/equipment
I got an FC and im fascianted with the world of drifting and i would like to start getting into it maybe even competively. The only problem is i dont know what kind of car equipment you need. Could oyu guys tell me what kind of things i need to get my FC up to "drifting specs".
Thanx |
rip out everything in ithe car is step one, if you do, including engine+tranny, you will be at about 1380lbs :)
rip off doors and windows and replace with lexan and cf as well as replace hood with cf thin/light hood and you should be at about 1000lbs weld in a chrome moly cage after that just put back in engien and tranny then upgrade suspension with tien HE "drift spec" and do spindle mod. after that just get rid of rear steer stuff and put in a stock T2 LSD as well as boost power to about 250-300rwhp adn your done. oh yeah get rid of those crappy ass fc stock seats! hahaha after that you gotta just get seat time (btw, if you did this correctly, you should be doing like 11-12secs in the 1/4 mile if you like to drag) actually you know what, f*ck all the mods i just mentioned, you'll probally crash the first fc you try with (not saying yoru a bad driver, the best drives i know of crash their cars). just save money for tires and leave it stock as you will crash it. |
whats the spindle mod? ive heard of it B4 but dont know what it is...
oh and for parts, just start out with rear suspension toe- in eliminator from racing beat, then some ok suspension and an lsd (stock na lsd will work) then stiffen up the chassis with a cage or some GOOD strut bars and give it a shot. taking all the interior out is a good idea to. once you are better at drifting, add power THEN. dont give yourself a powerful car until you have nearly mastered drifting. hopw this helps! charlie |
optimize your engine and cooling. remove everything you dont need (carpet and such), but leave power steering. urethane bushings from energy or wherever. some stiff springs and dampners. cheap rims, cheap tires, nice brake pads/rotors.

i dont have power steering and i think i like it better that way :D its not like its THAT hard to turn sheez.

Originally posted by skunks cheap rims and tires for the rear only, you want the good stuff up front. |

when drifting, you don't need alot of money just to drift.
All you need to do is upgrade to Teins and brakes. That's about it. Ripping out the whole interior is if you are real hardcore. But for now, just do those upgrades above and you should be fine. Plus you will need LSD. |
We really need a special section for this...

For once, I agree with Ted. :-)
Separate section for Drifters. |
I agree.
Not because it may or may not be racing (as debated in the past). But because there is definitely a growing interest in it. And due to the sheer number of threads,...it will cause other types of threads (like drag racing, auto-x, etc.) to be lost/drowned out. I made a suggestion quite a long time ago (a good 1.5 years ago, I think), to create seperate sub forums based on the type of application: Drifting, Drag Racing, Auto Crossing, etc. At the time, it wasn't well received because the whole Racing section in general, wasn't very "active". (I completely understand why it wasn't well received at that time) Now, I see a whole bunch of Drifting posts on an occassional basis. I don't know if we need to create seperate forums for each type of "racing" (it would be nice, as we can discuss things that are application specific,...such as good tires for drag racing, good tires for drifting, alignment settings for auto-x, NHRA rules for drag racing, etc.), BUT at the very least, due to the growing interest/demand for Drifting,...I would agree that there needs to be a section for Drifting. A place to store/isolate all of the Drifting threads. |
How about the clutch for Drifting? Drifting requires that you kick the clutch sometimes.
Organic or Metal? Spring hub? solid hub? light flywheel/stock flywheel? |

Why can't we just get along, discuss whatever race car related here.
The requirements for drift and racing are similar. If we have forum for drift, oval track, drag, hpde, road racing, rally, autocross, and other type of competitive events. These will be just too many forums to visit. Anyway, I do HPDE, auto-x, and drift events. We cannot be too focused on the differences. |
The goal is to have the Race Car Tech section with the Drift forum a subsection of it. No more subdividing than that.
Most of the reasons why I feel the need to seperate drift are here |
