Drift and AutoX Se7en?!?!
Im going to buy a 1993 Rx7 soon but i dont know about what set up to do. I like to drift, but i dont want that to be all my car does, so i wanted to know if a drift/autox setup is possible... If i got full adjustable tein coilovers, and sway bars, control arms, ect. all other suspention. So i could have one setup for steet, drift, and autox...?!?!?
also could i still autox w/ a locking differential???( i could drift w/ that, but would i spin out if i autocrossed w/ it?) Is what I am thinking possible, or is this not realistic? -Thanks guys |
It's possible to have your car set up for both. If you spring (sorry) for the Tein's, you'll be able to tune the suspension to do both, but probably at different settings.
Drifting involves inducing oversteer, then controlling it to maintain a slide rather than a spin or faster turn-in to a corner. Oversteer ("loose") is a function of rear suspension being less compliant, or having a larger polar moment of inertia (weight at each end) at the rear than the front of the car. The -7 is a good car for either autocross or drifting. The real difference between a good drift score and a good autocross run time is between your ears. They require different skills that may well conflict with each other. Have fun! |
Get a different car(non-FD) for drifting. It is not a good car to be learning on. Actually...why don't you just buy something nice and slow... [Click Me]

[Click Me] After clicking that link I agree that you should put the keys down and walk away now. Leave the driving to the grown ups alright.;) |
