Data Logging?
 

Hey, what are people using in thw way of data logging and are people having good luck with their choices? I'm going to be running a TEC3 so the basic engine stats are already taken care of, but I really want to get a good track data logging setup (GPS-based maybe). Any opinions/thought?

I use Traqmate (www.traqmate.com)and have been very happy. For the price it's a pretty good system. Let me know if you have specific questions or would like to see some output.

Good call...IMO the GPS based data acquisition systems are where it's at.

I've been using an AIMsports Evo3 for a few years, and have been pretty happy with it. They release software updates pretty frequently, and each update always seems to make it easier to analyze data.


Personally, I've spent a lot of time monitoring the lateral and longitudinal accelerometers to verify that different engine & suspension setups were actually faster (accelerating harder and/or sustaining higher average g's around a corner) than the previous ones (as opposed to a driver simply taking a better line around the track). You can also use them to build a track map. Built-in accelerometers are not always a standard feature, FYI.


Another thing to consider: some of the new DAQ's are able to monitor your ECU's serial port and log that data as well. I haven't tried this yet, but it could save a lot of wiring if the communication bus is fast enough: the ECU already knows IAT, coolant temp, RPM, and wheel speed... if it can transmit all that data to the DAQ via one wire, that's four wires that you don't need to run across the car.


I've heard that MoTEC has the best software for analysis (haven't tried it myself), but most data acq boxes can export in MoTEC file format.

i think we're running the aim system too.

we're logging rpm, throttle, cabin temp, wheel position, gps and i think thats it.

we've even got the thing to sync up with the in car camera footage

all of our gauge systems are done custom for us by a friend of ours who has a company that develops them.

We just tell him what we want them to do, and he makes them do that!

He's actually working on a GPS based data logging system at the moment that will be an inexpensive alternative to a Vbox.

Think he can do accelerometers?
