Cutting for fiberglass rear fenders

I'm starting my rear fiberglass fender install Monday. Any advice on what I should/should not cut? Pictures of what you cut would also be good. The fenders are +30mm and below. I'll be patching over the fuel door on mine since there is a cell.

Draw a line at the bottom of the door window height and stay at least an inch below it(per rules). The only issue you will have is up near the door there is an extra layer of metal that isn't welded to the outer skin but will make it tough to cut. I ended up putting the sawzall at an angle to work around it toward the bottom. Its about 6" behind the door opening up to the door opening. I think it has to do with the seatbelt shoulder reinforcement.

Other than that I just left a couple inches all the way around behind the door and in front of the rear lights tohave something to attach to.

The inner wheel well was cut at the highest point of its arch for the most clearance and filled back in to meet the new fender with aluminum(metal per rules)

Take some pictures as you cut the fenders for your application. I would like to see how much material you take out. I have cut my fenders, but I always wondered if I should have removed more metal. I also want to see how you deal with the fender well.

Will do. I have some ideas on using the existing fender well and just bending it out and up with a few perpendicular cuts. I am at weight so material removal is not a big priority. I didn't get around to cutting this past Monday as it took longer than expected unloading the trailer and cleaning mud off the car. One day I will learn to be more careful about staying on track when it's raining. I should cut this coming weekend.

I liked the air nibbler as well. Kind of fun to use. That and the sawzall

Thanks. At least you start to get the idea from your photo. Do you support the wheel well at all then after you mount the fiber fender?

I could have cut more but am comfortable with less as weight is not an issue and the sheetmetal weighs so little. I am going to rivet on some aluminum sheet to fill the fenderwell out to the fender.

^^Thanks for the pics. Seeing yours I can see where I could cut out a bit more material. Not sure it would reduce weight a whole lot, but every bit counts I suppose.
