Corner Weight Scales : Where Can I Buy Them?
 

I am thinking about buying corner weight scales. I would like to start shopping and comparing options. However, I am having a hard time locating them on-line.

Anyone know where I might be able to pick up a set?

I would say our shop, but those scales are HEAVY and shipping is a bear. We use the Longacre ones, but it looks like Longacre, Rebco, and several other name-brands may be made by the same company (identical products).

Shop around, see what you can find. Remember the roll-up ramps and other little pieces. It's also good to get a box or rolling cart, again they are heavy. Our shop set that we use has a rolling cart for the scales and display, and it is difficult for two guys to lift.

Okay, he's were physics and statics is fun.
If you don't mind taking a little while to do it, get a few bathroom scales (like 3 or 4) at your local mega-mart and make a platform out of wood or metal or somethig that won't break... Check the picture, that's one covered in a steel sheet.
Put a scale at each corner of the platform, jack the car up and put a tire on the platform, repeat per tire. You can get bathroom scales for about $30 per and lumber is cheap, it's cheaper than the digital scales.
Or you can go to a garbage dump and park your car, half on the front, half on the side and than the whole car on and do the math. Either way...

That would be fine, but the last time I corner-balanced my fc I had between 500# and 800# per corner.....I'd like to see a bathroom scale do that!

Not to mention safety issues and also it being WAY more work than its worth.

Best bet is to 1) buy them if you have budgeted for such
2) rent/borrow them from a race shop or team or another owner.

Yeah, the max I've seen a bathroom scale take is 330lbs, that's why you use 4 per corner, 16 in total if you were to weight the whole car at once. It's a little redneck, but it should work. I've never seen that rugged scale thing and that should work way better, forget my idea and use that. Does anyone have any experience with those?

i would like to add my endorsement of Ruggles scales to one of my long time racer heros Carroll Smith... BTW, if you are in to road racing or car setup Carroll's "Tune to Win" is IMHO the best single book you can buy. mine is circa 1971 and has actually been re-bound.

i used Ruggles Scales during most of my 22 seasons of SCCA GT3 racing and still have them and still use them. i will even share a tip.... the 4 scales and the 4 tire plates fit perfectly into one plastic dairy milk case. you know those, they are everywhere and all stolen.

besides that, they are accurate and easy to use.

right now they tell me my fd has 53% rear weight. getting the weight in the right places is really key and scales are a big help.

buy the ruggles scales from Pegasus. you will love them.

Is there some way to lever the weight so that you would need fewer scales?
