cooling system problems
 

Is anyone out there racing a 13B bridgeport (J) ? I have a J-port with a severe hot running problem at high rpm.
The car has a 3 core Griffing aluminum radiator, racing beat pulleys. The water pump and water pump pulley are stock. The car gets over over 7000rpm, like 250 degrees hot water temp. Thats after about 5 minutes of running. Any help would be appreciated.

one thing that helps is using water wetter....

but of course that will not cure a problem. dumb question i know, but are you sure yout thermostat is working properly?
if you have removed it, this could be a problem as water can travel to fast, and is not in the radiator long enough to cool. i do not know if this is true on your car, but in some cases you can NOT just remove the thermostat.

is the water pump accually working?
another problem, is that at high RPMs the water pump can start to "cavitate" (i think thats how it is spelled)
this is fixed by installing reduction pullys to slow the pump down

Core the thermostat and plug the bypass hole?

In my case, a fairly large vacuum line was unplugged, car ran like shit, but worse, water temps hit 260 the whole race.

What are you doing for oil cooling? I would run two stock oil coolers at least. Also make sure that the coolers are getting fresh air. This accounts for nearly half your cooling. This is most likely your problem. Are you using a stock bumper? You need to move any accessories, and the overflow tank from in front of the radiator, and the oil cooler. o you have a seperate oil temp gauge? If so what are the temps? The water, and oil will be equal if you have a well balanced system. Carl

Thanks for all your input, I have ordered the Mazda Comp pulley set, that should solve my problem.
