close gear transmission for FC?
 

THE stock TII's ratio just too wide every time I shift gear it will drop from power band!!!. I am looking for budget close gear ratio transmission. I heard people use MIATA gear in FC transmission case? and yes I seen a lot of people use lensen? or jerrico but kind da pricely!!!

...you couldn't just swap/change the rear end?? the GTUs (yeah, i know it's the rarest 7 ever) had a 4.300 rear end, which is +0.200 the "normal" RX-7 manny rear end of 4.100 .

Mazdaspeed wouldn't have anything??

btw, the TII already has a closer ratio'd box than the all-motor version... maybe try taking it further into the red before you shift ;)

nothing inexpensive. the miata or 626 gearset in a N/A gearbox is the cheapest setup, but it is not built for the power and torque of the turbo engine. 5.12 rear gear again in the N/A rear end will also help, but this setup is not able to handle the power of the turbo.

I don't think Mazdacomp sells differnet gera ratios for a TII tranny. Not 100% sure though

What are you shifting at? I'd love to spend the cash for one of the dog boxes that Guru sells, those are some trick pieces, but what's your power band look like with the PP? Have you dynoed?

On my stock port NA, Shifting at cutoff (7600) nets me a shift down to about 5600-6000, keeping me in the band.. Any lower, and I can definitely feel the difference.

IF you want stronger, Mazdaspeed sells the input and output shaft, plus all 5 gears in lightweight chromolly. $2000 last I checked.

It may help, there is a guy here in Australia who is making some trick gearsets for Mazda boxes, among other things. We have one of his boxes in a Volvo Turbo racecar. Big difference in boost drop and subsequent lag on gearchanges due to speed of shifting. Strong too!!

I would assume an Australian company would advertise their prices in their currency. the GURU products are about the same cost. $5000-$7500 USD(plus shipping and duty) for a gearbox. this is about $2000-$3000 cheaper than the mazda motorsports box. A used 4spd Jerico can be had for about $2000-$2500 and installed for about $4000. again nothing easy or inexpensive.

mm. I really want to have right transmission for my engine . the australian 's stuff look pretty nice but I wonder how hard to get part ship to usa if any thing brake and tech support. wonder what kind of transmission di USA locoal use?

i contacted an aussie company about buying some fender flares. shipping to california was VERY reasonable.

it is the responsibility of the *shipper* to insure shipments.

it does take time to ship across the globe and i agree could mean some downtime, but great parts are great parts.

why don't you try the semi-close ration chromolly miata gearset I posted in the link above?

USA locals use jerico, sanez, leeson crash-box, PBS, miata stock and rwd 626 stock gearboxes, or the OLD Mazda Comp Factory box which is almost impossible to get parts for. search google.com on those.

I am finding it very hard to get any information from anyone in the states about PBS gearboxes.

the PBS box is only sold through Mazda Comp parts. I have seen several of these gearboxes in service but sadly I have not seen one for sale. it was developed for IMSA GTU and GTO racing in the eighties. they are still available through Mazda Comp, but the parts are not that easy to find. I spoke to the GURU guys a while back and they had some interest from some rotary shops here in the states, but I have not seen anyone advertising these parts. For me the cost is just to much. the trans would cost twice what my engine cost, this is just not possible on my racing budget.

A lot of people I spoke too. they use leeson transmission. but I cant find any info about the company. only thing I know is the tran use first gen rx7 case:confused:

Mandeville in atlanta has the line on Leeson. last I checked they did not have a website(sorry no other contact info). A friend has one of these boxes and has had a few problems over the years(3 total rebuilds including main shaft in 3 years mucho $). it was designed for use in a GTU car and is a bit fragile with anything over 250HP. plus it costs about $5k. plus you will need a new driveshaft with a hardened yoke. nothing cheap and easy

are ur friend drive a ITE 3 GEN RX7? did he race in SCCA race or NASA

yes, he has a 3rd gen and races mostly with SCCA but has run with NASA before. he co-drove in the yellow car at the last NASA enduro at Willow Springs. he is rebuilding the car right now to run in SCCA GT2 for the rest of the year.

Evan's putting a 12a periph or 13b bridge in there? Why the switch to GT2? He was doing very well in ITE.

Periph port.. I guess there is not fun in ITE any more;) .

it has always had a 13b PP engine, and the switch from ITE to GT2 is simple. GT2 is a national class and a few manufacturers will pay money or products for national wins. ITE is just a regional class that gets you little more than racing experience and depending on who shows up to races you may have no one to race with. Mazda and Goodyear will pay for wins in national races and currently there are a few regulars running GT2, so there should be a few cars at every race. the car will have to run a bridgeport instead of the PP, but it should still be competitive in cal club. it should be running later this year.
