Cleaning Lexan ...???
 

I picked up a rolling chassis that I'm slowly doing over and one of the windows has overspray all over it.

I was wondering what I could use to clean it (lexan) without damaging the clarity.

Get the Novus 2 and 3 and that should fix your problem, I've used it on light scratches with success so it should be more than abrasive enough for overspray. Do NOT use any harsh chemicals like brake cleaner - that stuff will ruin the Lexan. I like Plexus for regular cleaning (you can not use Windex like with glass).

I haven't a clue what the stuff you mentioned even is... hah. Where can i find it..??? Thanks for your reply.

I'm imagining the stuff they sell at the regular parts store to polish you old cruddy headlight back to looking new again would work..??

I just don't want to try something and make a cloudy mess.

You can try Meguiars PlastX which the local auto parts store should have, I have used it without any damage to the Lexan. I still prefer the Novus 2/3 for deep cleaning and Plexus for regular cleaning.

FWIW: I'm not sure how this will affect lexan specifically, but I did use some of this on my lexus headlights (clear plastic?) and it cleared them up pretty nicely. I do understand its a metal polish, but it sure did remove the oxidation and made them shiney again, but still had lots of rock chips... It does work good on most metals too... Blue Magic Liquid Metal Polish.

lexan is resistant to alcohols, you might try a high concentration alcohol and see if it will dissolve the paint.

i am not 100% sure but i think pure mineral spirits may be ok as well, however most concentrated petroleum solvents will cause problems.

another thing you might try is that lexan is very acid resistant, so you might use an acid solution to remove the paint.

it is possible to polish lexan, but it is very difficult to get a good finish as it is so soft.

Toothpaste will work. Try a small part first to make sure it is not too abrasive.
