Circle Track suspension upgrades
 

Is there anything that i can do for free or very cheap on the suspenion of my rx-7 circle track racer?

There's a bunch you can do.... what have you done already?

This is a REALLY low cost way to get into racing so i dont want to spend hardly anything. Im looking for things like adjustment i can make, things i can do to existing suspenion components etc THANKS!

2 things, racing is Never low cost if you want to win, because the guys that are winning are spending a lot of money.

Racing is like gambling in Las Vegas, if don't have the money to spend don't do it.

AutoX is probably the lowest cost of racing there is, cause after looking at your rules, installing a cage and a fuel cell, that is going to set you back some serious cash.

The caburetor is going to need some attention too, you'll spend about $300-500 and have a pro rebuilt/modify it.

How does an RX7 fit in rule 1? Are you going to put a 4 cyl. motor in it? If so, what's the point? You'd be better off building a Mustang or something similar, since there's a larger aftermarket and more parts available for that specific application. I don't know of very many people oval racing an RX7...

With that said, put some camber on that puppy. You'll want negative camber on the outside tires, and positive camber on the inside tires. If you don't want to spend that much time on it, just do the outside. You can slot the shock towers in about an hour, drill four holes, then cut between the stock holes and your new hols with a dremel or your favorite cutting tool. There's all sorts of stuff you can play with on the setup, and I'd recommend slotting at an angle to get yourself a little more caster. Seems to work wonders on a roadcourse.

See if you can dial in a little ackerman(sp?) in the front end. Ackerman is where one front wheel turns at a sharper angle than the other. IIRC, you want the inside wheel to have more of an angle than the outside. You would adjust this in the steering arms, if you can do it on an RX7 (never tried, personally).

Get yourself an aftermarket seat, and mount it as far to the left as possible. You (the driver) make up a large part of the weight in the car, and you want it as inside as possible.

I know someone in NC who built a circle track RX7, the local *ascar officials found out about it and immediately outlawed it, they know the potential for the rotary! This guy ran a Mazda 626 motor, but wasn't competitive, he says its for sale (think the asking $ is too high).

The officials said its easier to p*ss off one person than several.

Hehe, going out for the Hornet races, huh? Boy, that's some crazy racing out there. I attended one event and was amazed at the preparation in the cars, not because it was so high but because everything was so jimmy-rigged.
