Chassis straightener FD specsheet

I'm looking at buying ChassisSim Lite.
http://www.chassissim.com/

I need the dimensions of the FD suspension geometry.
I figure the best way to do it is to get a chassis machine set-up sheet for FD.
I don't know what you call the sheet, the one they use to see if your crashed FD is straight before they put it back together :)

That will give me the suspension point locations then i need to measure the suspension arms.

Q1 has anyone already done this and can you give me the data
Q2 has any one got an FD chassis machine set-up sheet for the FD chassis?

I don't mind drawing it up in 3D if some one can find the sheet for me.

You want the Collision Repair Manual:

do they have 1 of those for the FC ? I need some misc parts

classicauto 08-08-08 05:50 PM

In industry its simply called "frame specs"

Any body shop with a Mitchell Estimating system should be able to provide you with them, they may charge a fee though - that system is pricey.

It'll give you a few measurements from various chassis points as well as measurements for heights of those points from a datum line.

Nah the collision repair manual is just a bunch of replacement part numbers

OK I will ask a few "panel beaters" with Chassis machines

there is another collision repair book that gives dimensions and tells how HOW to fix the unibody properly (where to cut, where to weld etc)

Rhino 3D FD

I've been a bit busy but i did get an Fd chassis data sheet. I just went and brought one.

I will draw it up in Rhino.

Does any one else use Rhino or some other 3D drawing software?

If we split the FD down the middle and a few people drew one part each (fender, door... etc..) we could draw a hole FD in no time.

If we could find someone with a CMM Faro arm digitiser or even better a laser scanner arm.
Once there is a 3D model it can be put through some CFD and we can get get some aero data.

Rhino 3d

I have started a page where i will put 3D drawings of the FD as I do them or as others submit them.

go to RX7 dot net
FD 3D Drawing project

I've got some 3D modelling experience. I haven't used Rhino, but Ill be looking at at in the next little bit. I'm doing a tube frame 3rd gen road race car, so I'm as interested in the chassis data as you are. I've just started the parts pile. How could I get the data off you?

cheers,
-Trent

3d Fd

Well... I have started a site where i will put part drawings sent to me.

You just have to send me some 3D FD part drawings.
I will add a list of parts required in order of importance (as far as an accurate model for track simulation is concerned)

It doesn't have to be a Rhino drawing, any 3D format will do. Rhino can import just about anything.

As for the Chassis drawing it's a bit hard to read. The lateral positions are OK but the vertical positions are measured using special clamps with alphabetical designations + an additional measurement.
Like clamp F + 165mm + 16 mm bolt head pick-up.

I need to get down to a chassis machine place and measure the various standard clamp lengths so i can work out the vertical measurements.

( I know where a machine is as I had the Chassis checked on the machine before I had the cage put in)

Post up the measurements when you have them.
I've been playing with some chassis designs in max, just sorting out ideas on what goes where. The scale is off a bit as I don't have any measurements, just ballpark guesses.

Hi FD,

The Fd Chassis data sheet, where did you purchase this from, I'm interested in getting a copy - helpful with racecar repairs etc.

Cheers,

FD can you post the chassis data sheet.

Yes I know you paid good money for it but please realize that some of us donated a lot of shop manuals, electrical manuals to the sticky section of the 3rd Gen site. I know that I paid hundreds for what I donated in the greater interest of the marquee.

dgeesaman 10-07-08 08:24 PM

Heh, we just go a couple of those high-accuracy Faro arms at work. One is designated as the "portable" unit. It sure would be badass to take it home for a weekend and scan points all the way around the car. Then import the data into a CAD system and scale one of those 3D models to fit the actual data and chassis spec sheets.

Unfortunately that will never happen. The dept manager is a prick and those things are like his little dicks.

FD:) 02-01-09 03:14 AM

It only cost $10...

It only cost $10... I haven't looked on the forum for a while. I'll dig it out and post it up.

bringing this back, has anyone completed a model for ChassisSim?
