Catch cans
This is a pretty dumb question, but when do you need an oil catch can?
I am building a'85 spec-7 into an IT7. It doesn't have any catch cans now, are any required for IT7? |
dunno, buts it's always good to have one so you don't shove a load of oil into your inlet

check the latest GCR's but usually you need a 1 quart catch/overflow for the radiator(usually an OEM part) and for the engine oil. does not have to be fancy trick aluminum piece. I have been using a gatorade bottle with a few holes in the lid for years. easy to empty by unscrewing lid. tech guys may want it to be from metal but I have not had a problem.

Neil,
You need a catch can for any fluid that can be expelled from a closed system (my interpretation of the rules). Therefore, you need a catch can for the radiator, and for the PCV breather. I don't know the spec 7 rules, but in IT, it's mandatory. I run a plastic 1qt overflow tube, not quite as primitive as Tim's ;) but metal cans aren't required. PaulC |
