Can I run street stock solo-II, or any other class?
I have a 1980 Rx7.
Assuming I could use what I have, I'm wanting to dable with autocross. In order to have fun and learn to drive better. I see auto-cross solo-II websight at housccs.com sounds very restrictive about the car being stock, and meeting emissions. I don't have the rats nest emissions(risk of intake leaks), nor the air-pump, nor any catalytic convertor (I can't remember if it originally had one or not, I think it did), nor the air-conditioner. I wanted it simple. I've added the racing beat headers and resonator. No catalytic convertor. Since my car is 25years or older, mines a 1980 model. I don't have to take emissions test to get inspection. So I can get inspected and registered to drive on the street. So the car will be street legal. Now that you know all this, my question is: will I be able to run autocross solo-II? Will having an inspection sticker be enough, or are they going to physically inspect my missing emissions system? Can I run street stock or will I have to run another class due to the racing beat headers and the removal of some components? Thanks for reading all this. If you are not familiar with solo-IIing a slightly-slightly modified Rx7, then if you know someone else that has done this, please post there contact info. Thanks in advance, swirve. |
You probabaly won't be about to run stock, probably csp? mainly because of the exhaust. You won't be competitive, but you can learn and have fun all all...

do you drive around with earplugs? i cant imagine an open exhaust on the older model rotaries..... /shiver. i hear good things about the resonator but idk.

he's not running open, it sounds like just the standard rb header/presilencer /maybe muffler...

That's right, I bought a new stock muffler from RB, along with the header and resonator.
In using this 1980 for solo2, I'm gonna get new tires. I currently have 13" rims. Before spending the money on buying good tires, should I upgrade to different Rx7 rims, maybe some later model from a salvage yard? I have the earliest Rx7 rims, which I kinda hate. Onlything nice about them is that there aluminum. Would 14" be better for performance? I definetely like the looks of the mid 80's models better than mine. Thanks for the replies. |
Sounds like a CSP car.
