Can I get my harness belts re-webbed and use my existing hardware?
 

Since SCCA's ridiculous ruling that we can only get two years out of a set of belts, I need to change mine. My set only has FOUR races on them and they are perfect...but the powers that be say they are unsafe because they are now two years old. Instead of dropping another $150 for a camlock setup, is there any company that will put new belts on my existing hardware to save $$?

Call Racer Wholesale or Racer Parts Wholesale. They used to re-web our Sabelt brand - not sure if they will do any brand.

totally depends on the manufacturer. Most do not reweb. I know that Pyrotect does reweb their belts which include Pyrotect, Bell, and Willans. I have heard that Crow still rewebs their belts. I have never heard of any manufacturer rewebbing another manufacturer's belts. I reccomend the pyrotect belts for this very reason and the guys are great supporters of club racers. http://www.bellmotorsports.com/

I don't recall the charge, but it didn't cost much for a reweb from Pyrotect. Most of the initial cost of the 5pt camlock that I purchased was in the hardware.

Worst case scenario, Simpson, and some others will give you a substantial credit on trade in. Most Manufacturers Re web. Carl

Now that I think about it, Larry at Pyrotect upgraded my camlock unit to an improved version for free the last time that he rewebbed the harness. Great guy to deal with. They have a tiny showroom at the manufacturing facility (in Sun Valley, CA, I believe-- maybe tims has been there and can remember the address...) and the walls are covered with pictures of race cars and guys on fire. That second part was a little disconcerting until I realized that they were pictures of stuntmen that were purposely set on fire ;)

The ruling isn't that rediculous, there was a bit article a while ago with a well-done belt experiment. Nylon rapidly degrades when exposed to UV.

True...but I don't know any racers that leave their car outside, uncovered for the whole off season.

LOL... many aspects of the "test" were bogus in the real world of racecars... but what's done is done.

Impact Racing has a trade in credit on other companies belts, and they reweb.

I think the point of the test was to accelerate the effects, and unfortunately, rules are usually drawn up to protect the lowest common denominator.

Around here, I see several round track cars left sitting outside in the sun in the off season, so some people really do abuse their belts with excess sunlight.

You could think about selling your old belts to someone in the classifieds - auto-x'ers and HPDE folk are not covered under the 2-year limit. You may be able to recoup more money this way than by simply trading them in.
