camber plate over or under the strut tower?

and why?

as i understand it, putting the plate on top looks cooler, raises the top of the spring/shock a little (1/2"?)

with the con being that instead of having the plate take the load, suddenly the camber plate bolts are taking all of the load.

so is putting em on top a no/no?

I have seen it done both ways over the years. I personally do not feel the small amount of added space gained out ways putting the bolts in that kind of loading.

Technically, the bolts, in good shape, will not be in a loading situation where they may break in tension (esp if you use gr8 bolts). I too have seen them setup both ways. In my case, I may have them above the tower to make my strut that much longer to stop bottoming out. If you reinforce at the bolt locations, and weld mount tabs above camber plate bolt, I wouldn't loose any sleep at night.

I needed that extra 3/4" of shock and spring travel, so I had to mount mine of top of the towers. Use good grade bolts, and be sure and use large washers on both top and bottom to help spread the loads out. Mine have held up fine for years now like that with hard road race useage.
