Calling all autocrossers, need tire help

i was wondering what size tire and type of tire you guys got the best results? i have a 14 X 6 1/2 rims. i would like to still be able to drive in the rain

Despite what gets passed around, the Falken Azenis RT-615 is a fantanstic rain tire...and is available in a 195/60-14 size that is both affordable and fits your wheel size. Best prices that I have found are at www.DiscountTireDirect.com , free shipping and no tax (out-of-state). Then pick any reliable/trustworthy tire shop for mounting/balancing.

You can autocross with the best of them on this tire and drive daily with it, probably the best dual-duty tire every created for autocrossers.

thanks guys. i have after market rims that are 6 1/2 inchs wide. so i would like to put a wide tire on it like a 205 or 215. but i think that is an odd size.

The Azeni is the best dual purpose tire. In the 14" they only make the 195/60-14. Now if you want to but some dedicated race rubber on there...... a 225/50-14 V710 will work on there.

A 205/60-14 size will also work but I don't know of any competition compounds in tires that size. Generic street tires in this size is what I'm putting on my 14x6.5 and 14x7 Epsilon wheels.

i am looking for about 250-400 treadwear. for street and autox i don't have the money for comp tires.

I would agree about the Azenis. Have them on son's Neon that we autocross, and they are easily as good as the R compound tires of 10 years ago.

Another alternative. If you already have decent street tires and are looking for autocross only tires, find a cheap set of rims (usually easy for our cars), and get some used tires from a nearby racer. If you offer to crew for him, you might even get them for free!

Go to Road America for the next SCCA race, and hang around the tire trucks or wander the paddock, and you can probably get some for free or cheap.
