best way to lose weight
what are some ways you can shed around 300-500lbs off a fd and its possible. cheap and expensive ways are welcomed
Stop Eating
Remove all the sound deadening and stock interior. Use Dry Ice to remove the sound deadening. |
yea there is no way thats cutting 300-500lbs maybe 150lb with new seats and sound deadening gone but it seems like there isnt much to take offa rx7 to make it lighter
What is your intent and how extreme are you willing to go?? We are predicting my LS1 Track FD is going to weigh in at 2200-2300lbs once it's all said and done. Pretty much everthing is gutted though.... doors only have the outside shell, hood gutted, hatch gutted, all interior removed to include dash, manual steering rack, etc, etc...
daily driver haha i dont wanta do a full out gutted car so maybe 200-300lbs is more reasonable
If that's the case, I wouldn't take anything out.
^^^ agreed, Substitute with power
ok thankx guys plans is around 400-500hp someday rite now im just doin my research in all areas
Don't forget all the glass. Go lexan or similar materials. Also lightweight carbon hood.
Lexan is prone to scratching, not the best for a street car. Other things to avoid: composite doors, these will be very dangerous on the street as they won't have the stock door beams in them which are critical to side impacts and are important for front and rear impacts too (channels forces around passenger compartment).
I agree with the others though, not much can be done on a street car while its still a reasonable daily driver. |
Race seats, emissions, PS, AC, carpet/sound deadening are all things that can be removed on a street car to get near your 300lb goal, but how much are you willing to sacrifice for weight? I don't see Lexan in the rear hurting anything, that would save you some as well.
doors, rear hatch, seats, carpets, sound mats. Everything that can be removed that can be exchanged with something else.
if i take out the sound deadening and carpet that would be so loud so it seems that carbon fiber and lightweight seats, suspension, wheels, and brakes might be the solution cuz 300lbs makes a big difference on a car and i weigh 200 and im 6'1 so im not getting any lighter
If it's your DD, don't bother. Enjoy the interior. Anything you rip out will make it worse to drive on the street with no tangible performance benefit.
thanks all for the help i do like the rx7 seats but it seems like racing seats could be the way to go..anybody regret swapping their stock seats for racing seats?
You can get the car down to about 2700 lbs with little effort if you start with a base model.
i just want it under 3000lbs with me in it
In the interest of saving weight to get that last little bit of performance, I removed the A/C when I was restoring my street RX-7 a few years ago. Then when summer came, I realized how stupid that was to remove A/C to save 2% weight on a daily driver street car in the hot, humid south.

well i would say dont strip the car if its a dd just hop on the tredmil and take a big poop and ull be good lol

I weigh 180lbs. My car weighed 2,958 lbs w/ half a tank of gas. I have all accessories (a/c, power steering, radio) and run 99 twins. No spare tire though.
You should be able to stay under 3,000 w/o too much trouble. If you can't, you should consider skipping a few bacon cheese burgers. Or at least have a diet coke with your burgers. :) I never actually tried to do anything to decrease weight in this car. It is already quite light and pretty damn fast as it is. |
yea well i never rode in an rx7 and it seems that they are fast stock..my charger makes 500hp almost with my rebuilt 440 but its pretty heavy so i dk what a light car feels like to drive

My FD is 93 Touring. Removed: All stereo equipment, AC. Replaced: Seats, CF hood. The hood was worth a few pounds, but not much. FD seats are pretty light, I doubt any weight was saved by replacing them. Added: Race Shop harness bar. It's heavy. 15 lbs? Front Brakes are larger, Coleman hats and rotors, Wilwood SL6 calipers, all heavier than stock. Twin turbos replaced with a single, so there's some weight savings, but I don't really know just how much. No emissions equipment at all, so there's a few lbs. The stock cats are pretty heavy. I had the car corner weighted with me in it. I weigh around 230 lbs. The gas tank was full. Wheels/tires were Enkei RPF1 18x9.5 with 285/35/18 Kumho V710's Total weight was 2998 lbs. Subtract me and the gas, and the car was 2668 lbs. |
You could get a CF sunroof :-)
Seriously, after wheels perhaps, there'd be no better LOCATION to remove weight from thAn the roof. Dropping 10 pounds off the lowest part of the car isn't doing much for you. |
ok i understand thanks
