best suspension upgrade for limited budget?
 

hey all
i don't usually post here, but i figured you guys could answer this best. i've started to solo2 race my 83 rx7, and i'm looking at doing some minor upgrades to the suspension over the winter. i'm going to be getting a pair of tokico front adjustable shocks from a forum member. and with about 200usd to spare, what would give the best results?, whether it be stiffer springs, or swaybar, or whatever?, i kind of have it narrowed down to either a full set of RB springs, or a pair of rear tokico hp shocks, and a front sway bar.

I'd go with the shocks and big front bar. If your stock springs havn't settled much the shocks and a big front bar will give you the most handling improvement without hurting your ride quality. If you get the RB springs you need new shocks to control them anyway. You can get the springs later after you upgrade the shocks.

do you know what class you want to run? base your mods on that, i don't think they allow springs if you want to run stock class...

my cars allready lightly modified, no emmisions, headers, front brace, CAI, and by the end of winter it'll have an e-fan, and an fmoc. i'm currently in class D, but i've been informed that for my car this is probably incorrect, so class C is probably more realistic.

so if i need new shocks for the springs, then yeah it makes alot of sense to go with the shocks and front bar, and then add the springs when i can afford it, cause i think the stock springs are still in pretty good shape.

another question i had, is who sells a good anti-sway bar?, i was looking at racing beats, but i know suspension tech, and eibach also sell them as well.

By carefully shopping, I acquired the following setup:

- Eibach Springs, new, $210 (I don't think these are available any more)
- Koni gas front strut inserts, not externally adjustable, new $90 ebay
- Tokico blue rear shocks, new $65, someplace online
- Suspension Techniques Front and Rear Sway Bars, used, $50, this site
- Front control arm bushings and tension rod bushings, new $20, this site.

The car is too loose for autocross, so you could probably do better just retaining the stock rear bar.

To do the minimum, I would suggest a large front sway bar (1-1/8", various sources, new or used), and a set of Tokico blue front and rear shocks.

thanks all, yeah i've been trolling the classfieds here for deals, so hopefully i can get some decent stuff, and i just bought a a pair of tokico rear shocks from mazdatrix,to go with fronts i bought earlier. so i just need to find someone wanting to sell a front bar.

With a stock car in generally good condition, decent shocks and a large front bar is the biggest bang for your buck. With careful shopping, your $200 should be spent there first, and then anything left over should be spent on suspension bushings: front control arm and tension rods.
