Best racing brakes for the FC?
 

We had a hard time finding racing brakes for the car, the only company that we heard of was Hawk. Are there any endurance style pads and rotors for this car? We have an 86 non-turbo.

There is a race section that may be more helpful, but I can give you some info.

Hawk, and several other companies, make various pads for the 4 piston calipers. I just recently got some HP+'s on my car and they work great on the track (no fade!). If you search you should find a number of companies that make race pads.

Next up, the rotors. I know the guys running E production are using off the shelf rotors. They are cheap and thick enough to dissipate heat. Stay away from the slotted or cross drilled rotors! They break!

actually for enduros, i have heard raybestos has a garontee on their racing pads.

Thanks guys. We had actually ordered EPC pads but didn't realize that they were only for the five lug cars so we had to run the race on the stock pads and rotors. They held up well for 24 hours but there was only one real braking zone into a chicane. If we race this car at CMP next year we will need a lot more pad for sure.

I will look into these suggestions and check the racing section too!

First, upgrade to the five lugs. If you are racing the car you need the four piston brakes. Then get some good quality brake pads. I've run hawk blues, blacks and hps's as well as PBR metal masters and carbotech XP8's 10's and 12's

My pad of choice is the carbotechs. For your application (once you've done the five lug upgrade, assuming a mostly-stock, heavy, but lower power car) would be the XP-10's they don't take a ton of time to get up to temp and they take a lot of abuse.

I like the EVO brake conversion.

Porterfield also makes pads for the FC, and they've got a specific enduro compound.

Newer ain't necessarily better. ;)

true, but in this case, the newer pads grip harder, with better modulation, and are longer lived, and easier on rotors.

Not sure I've used a pad that grips harder than a Hawk Blue. For that matter, in my experience, Hawks outlast Carbotechs and PFC's.

The new Hawk DTC-70 pad is supposed to be outstanding but I haven't tried it. I usually run Hawk Blue's which I love.

There was a point where I started to smear the HP+ pads onto the rotor face. I tried Blues, but the Blacks in the rear were locking up. Now I am running HT-10s in the front with Balcks in the rear. Granted, I was driven by bias issues, but the HT-10s feel better to me than the Blues. I will look into DTC-60 or 70 when they become available for the FC - I hear excellent reviews for them.

I run Blues front and back. I think the DTC is available for the FC right now. I will be trying the DTC-60 for the front and either the same for the rear or HT-10 on the rear next. The recommendation came from an RX8 Koni Challenge driver and Hawk dealer. I'm also told these will produce less dust, last longer and not be as abrasive as Blues - but they do cost a few bucks more.
