Battey disconnect switch
 

*oops, can a mod correct my mis-spelled title?

I want to install a battery disconnect switch in my FD. Im not trying to meet any track requirements, but just looking for a safe way to cut power while I store it for long periods of time without having to remove a battery cable. If i leave it too long now it drains my pc680 and I have to jump it which is a pain. The one I have found local is labeled as a battery isolation switch and is rated at 300 amps and says its for rv's, boats and motorsports. Is there a difference between these "isolation" switches and the disconnect switches like this one:

I went from the main fuse block to the switch, to the battery. The fuel pump is wired independently of everything straight to the battery. Does this seem like a safe way to go? Would it be a good idea to pick up a better quality switch made specifically for track use? I figured the racing section would be the best place to ask since I know some of you are required to have these accessible from the exterior of the car and would have some experience with them.

In this case, just for battery isolation, you could have just wired it up between the negative terminal and the chassis ground. Otherwise it looks fine.

The ones used for race cars usually have multiple poles inside them which get open/closed in parallel. This is because the requirements are that when you cut the switch, it must cut power to the entire car and the car must stop running. So you must power to the alternator (if you have one in your race car) in addition to the batttery.

I installed a Stinger 150 amp circuit breaker near the battery, on the negative side.

Push the switch on the breaker, and the battery is disconnected.

I didn't have the requirements for a full kill switch, I just wanted to easily disconnect the battery. In addition, should the battery short to ground, the breaker will open the circuit.
