Battery "Cut-off" switch location pics
 

Guys,
I just wanted some visual pictures for ideas on where to mount the NHRA certified battery cut-off switch. Pictures of it mounted in a 2nd gen would be nice ;)

Look in the back under the tailights, this might work well for a 2nd gen as well.

I don't have any pictures but my battery cut-off switch is mounted right in the middle of my license plate, between the letters. I couldn't see myself cutting a hole in my bumper or tailight.

Another place is the rain tray orifice under the windshield wipers.

The NHRA says it has to be on the rear of the car (to race) and in plain sight. there is a differance between a full blown race car, bracket/street car. the picture of the yellow 3rd gen above i would say did a tastefull job of placing the switch,well done.

a 2ed gen rx7 is a challange, while keeping it street legal. i would install the switch into one side or the other of the back-up lights. cut the lens remove the bulb/socket and fab. out of aluminum a 'plate' that replaces or covers where the back-up lens used to be and mount the switch to the plate. you still have 1 back-up light.

Thanks for the info guys! Well, on my 2nd gen, we shaved the 3rd brake light. Do you guys think it would look funky in that space?

I'd put it right where that stupid tree is in the middle of your license plate. That's where mine is.

build a box behind the license plate. then just remove license plate at the track

Im putting mine right in the center of the licence plate :).

I would bet that will get you a ticket or at least pulled over.
It would be like me putting a piece of tape on the plate to change a number or letter.......tampering?

Normal licence plate is covered by the dealer plate while city driving... ;)

how can you put one plate over another plate if you have a switch sticking out of it?

The car I am building is for a friend who ownes a dealership, and has one of those plate with rubber mounts that just hangs over the other plate. (basicly its a rubber casing for the plate, with two arms that go up and are shut in the hatch to hold it in place.) It dosent directly mount over the normal plate.

I thought about putting it there, we'll see! As for the "track day", I don't think i'll be making it out this year:
1) I don't have spare wheels/tires to run
2) I don't have extra fuel to bring to the track

I REALLY wanted to go though, it'd be fun to hang with some rotor heads!

Thats a dealer plate for test drives. The white FC above may have something there.

Pegasus Racing has an email special going on cut-off swithes that are of a high quality.

One is for a car w/o an alternator and the other is for a car with an alternator. The second one has contact points for four leads and a resitor.

Can someone explain the extra wiring for a car with an alternator?
Can't I just run the basic one as a on/off for the positive terninal?
What am I missing?

Hmm, this is just a guess since I've never hooked up a kill switch.
If you just disconnect the battery from the system, then it won't start. But if it's already running then the alternator will continue to supply power... so you need to disconnect both to actually kill the car.

Yep. Cars with alternators are supposed to run a two pole cutoff switch. One disconnects the main at the battery and the other disconnects the alternator output.

You can see that I mounted mine in the middle of my license plate.

Not if the alternator output goes to the battery side of the cutoff switch!
