Awesome new autox technology

This is just nuts; I love it! I envy the guys who designed it!

It's an automated mechanism that places and retreives highway cones! It so friggen cool!

Cool, now just place the retriever on the front of your race car and the placer on the back and drive right over the cones.
Should make short work of a "slalom". :)

Wow, what a great business idea. I love it!

"Um, I'm sorry sir, but you must be mistaken...all the turn five cones are still in place as you can plainly see. Would you please take your hands off my fast time overall trophy? Thank you." :D

"Okay, so how did that guy drive a conversion van and beat everything else around the course by 20 seconds?"

I think that would "technically" be allowed by the rules, since if you hit a cone it counts as hitting the gate properly, and if any part of it is touching the box and it's standing up, it counts. In theory, if you cream one with your wheel and throw it straight up into the air and it lands standing up on the box, you're good :p

thats badass...never seen that before...:)

hmm.......don't need it, don't knock any cones over.

Subject: Smart Cones

BMW CCA Golden Gate Chapter autocross timing guru John Bolhuis sent me
this link.

John's comments:

"All cars will now run in the same class, and the cones will move in for
the faster cars, thus leveling the playing field."

In our ensuing discussion, we envisioned a self-righting option, and the
smart cones would automatically send a radio signal to the timer to add
the time penalty for each cone knocked over. Furthermore, no more
driving around in the truck tossing out cones. Just line them all up at
the edge of the competition area and have them position themselves based
on the pre-determined computer simulation. At the end of the day they
would return themselves to the truck or trailer for loading.

Alas, even at the anticipated reduced price of $200 each (excluding
options), these are about 40x what we currently pay for cones, give or
take.

Hehe looks interesting. Probably not cost efficient though.
