AutoX video from Grattan Raceway

Here is a fairly short video of the race at Grattan on 9/4/06. I borrowed the camera from my sister, who unfortunately forgot to charge the battery beforehand. As a result, we only got about 1 1/2 runs on tape, and they were the first runs for my codriver and myself. On the first runs, we just took it easy to get a feel for the course and figure out where we would have to go into 3rd gear to get the best times. I ended up doing surprisingly well, besting a couple of highly modified RX7s with 13Bs and racing wheels/rubber. Trust me, our last three runs were much faster than what we have on video. It does give a decent look at the track though. Overall, this was about the most fun I've had so far racing this year. Take a look and let me know what you think. http://youtube.com/watch?v=nhQUR6H_09g

Okay, I just tried the link and it said that the video still has to process. If the link doesn't work when you try it, then try back later and it should work then. Sorry...

Working now...

always nice to see a 7 where it belongs.

:) ;)

You did do good.

I'm glad my buzzer is dead!
My smaller Hoosiers had me shifting to 3rd at the 2nd corner and into 4th on the final striaght.

Larz 09-07-06 09:13 PM

That course looked fast! I'd love to drive that. What the hell was that beeping I kept hearing? Is it a 2nd gen thing?

RotaryAXer 09-07-06 09:29 PM

Its really funny on the buzzer thing. It caught me by surprise in the video also. Wierd since mine was going crazy every run. I guess I just tune it out in the heat of the moment.

Thanks guys. Yeah, that buzzer was pretty annoying! On all of the other runs after that 1st one, I shifted into 3rd right after the carousel and then 4th on the final straight. I'm only sorry that I didn't get to see either of you (R.J. & Bruce) make your runs. I wish I'd had a chance to look over your cars too. The old girl has 205k miles on her now, so I might be putting a fresh motor in over the winter strictly as a preventive measure (not having any real issues so far). My wife said you guys were very smooth, and I'll take her word for it. R.J. it was kind of funny that both of our best times were like a 10th of a second apart from each other, but we both hit cones on those runs. But even on my best run, Bruce was lightyears ahead of me. I think I like the idea of your tire setup Bruce. That was by far the most fun I've had legally. :) It just stinks that the only video we got, was during a granny run. lol. I hope to see you guys again soon.

That was the sound of a 1st gen redline buzzer... You learn to tune it out eventually. :)

You know, I hope nobody thinks I'm an arrogant ass. Rereading some of my posts I can see how that might happen. I'm really just hyper-geeked and grinning ear to ear. This is my first year of racing, after wanting to do it for 30 years. Being able to hang with a couple of the really nicely set up 7s is just plain awesome. God, I feel like a kid on Christmas! lol. Even my wife is finally starting to get into it a little since Grattan. Maybe she'll even loosen up those purse strings and let me buy a few toys... :)

That looks like a really fun course. The elevation changes make it different than most autocrossing.

Cool vid.

I have a 3rd Gen and it too, has a buzzer but sounds different than that. I find it very helpful in planning strategy as far as shifts are concerned. The buzzer activating means you are at redline and soon to go to fuel cut-off (at least on the FD).
Ignore the buzzer if you are going to be slowing down soon or are in the process of turning, otherwise shift-up to gain speed, reduce engine stress & lower lap times :) Anticipate where and when the buzzer goes and plan your shifts accordingly.

Yep, we only stayed in first for our first lap each. After that we started having a bit more fun. :) This was the first time that either of us had ever driven on a real race track, so it was all kind of new.

Next time if the camera battery is low, I'll save it for my last run instead of my first. lol.
