Autox is GRRRREAT!!!

If anyone has the time I suggest doing a novice school. We got 15-20 runs in with great help and instruction. My Kumhos were taking a beating yesterday but man was it worth it.

Ok, started out the day by running a "get to know the course" time of 42 sec. First hard run put me at high 32 sec. In about 2 more runs I was at high 31's then we broke for lunch. In the afternoon, where the runs were continuous, I started out at low 32's and couldn't seem to get into the 31's again. My instructer told me that I was a natural and that he saw great things coming from me but my times still seemed high. I tried a different line through one of the turns and as I worked on it more my numbers dropped like a rock. Last run of the day I was at 30.959 which was one of the best of anyone out there. Except for the intructor who was the 2001 national champ; he was running high 28's.

Anyway, that was my first experience and I just thought I would share. Now to save up for the next one. :D

Glad you had a blast. A good instructor will help you improve quickly by identifying your worst habits, making schools the best money spent. Who was your instructor?

ttpowerd 04-14-03 09:13 AM

Robert (something). We had different instructors getting in and out of people's cars all the time. I had a few but don't remember their names :( I will see them again at the end of may :D

Oh, I forgot. I spun out one time when I was doing really good because I was anxious to get across the line. Well I got across the line alright - backwards! hehehe....took out just about every cone on my way :p:

I can't believe I didn't get into this sooner. Ahh...its good fun!

Glad to hear we've got another addict. :D

Good bang-for-the-buck: Evolution Driving Performance School

http://www.autocross.com/evolution/

Taught by multi-time National champs. You'll learn a lot. I recommend attending one if it comes by you anytime in the future.

Psst ... hey Damon, I think you'll recognize the car on this link ... ;)

yeah, we get one on August 9th so I will def attend!

Addicted, YES I can't get enough.

I'm so glad you had fun. I was detained by family responsibility (Easter egg hunt with out-of-town family...) so I couldn't make it this weekend :( hope to see you at the next one!!!

Rob Faulkner? A short, cherubic looking guy with a contagious laugh? I took EvoII with him; great driver as well as teacher.

The picture rotates so sometimes you see me and sometimes you don't ;) I remember that day the wind was howling and temps were in the 40's. We all froze our butts off and looked silly standing around in full face helmets with the visors down trying to stay warm.

Sounds like him!

Cory, hope you can make to the next one too :) I didn't actually go to the points race but the novice school held the day before. You get so much seat time, its incredible. I will be at the next novice school on the 31st of May and possibly the points race depending on real school and how the tires are holding up. ;)

TSCC Gymkhana- Ranzo

Try that on for size....................

ttpowerd 04-16-03 07:07 AM

Looks like a good way to ruin some tires ;)

I'm sorry but that really doesn't look like that much fun :( :(

xplikt 04-16-03 05:25 PM

Hey, that looks like half the drivers in winter here in Montana.

Ranzo 04-16-03 08:04 PM

damn people in Montana drive that good!!??? :D

Gymkhana is the shit it is more fun than you might think, it involves using a tree with reaction times to take off with and the whole run is timed....just like a drag race...but it requires skill to control the car around obstacles.......this includes elements of Drift, Drag, and every other type of racing. Throttle control, proper brake usage, steering inputs, and the ability to remember the course and look far enough down the road to prepare for the next obstacle. I wonder what people do for fun???

I didn't mean the gymkhana, but the sliding all over the place. Think of that, but with large Diesels and beater trucks. Sweet.
