Auto X - Feb Fastrack: SAC looking for member feedback for placing FD in A Stock
 

In the latest fastrack the Stock Advisory Committee is looking for member feedback on placing several cars into A Stock.

February Fastrack Proposal for 2010:

The SAC offers the following classing change proposal package for member comment:

- Move models currently in B Stock into C Stock, merging the two classes.
- Move models currently in A Stock into B Stock.
- Move the following models into A Stock:

BMW Z4 M Coupe/Roadster (‘06+)
BMW M3 (‘08+)
Lexus IS-F
Mercedes C63 AMG
Porsche 911 Turbo (‘95-’97)
Porsche 911 (‘98-’04)
Porsche Cayman S (‘05+)
Porsche Boxster S (‘05+)
The SAC would like member input regarding whether to include the following models in this move:
Chevrolet Corvette (‘99-’04)
Lotus Esprit Turbo (‘96-’04)
Mazda RX-7 (‘93-’95)

The SAC is considering the base C5 Corvette and RX-7 as lower-cost entries that could increase participation. The relative age, parts availability, and car availability are of particular concern. Additionally, the SAC is requesting comment on whether to include the Corvette Fixed Roof Coupes (FRC), as they were only produced in 1999 and 2000 with production numbers around 6000.

I would have to take a few parts off to be back to Stock. The worst one would be the down pipe. I have made sure not to do anything irreversible just in case of this proposal or the introduction of a STU2 class. If it went through though I would seriously consider it.
What are everyone else's thoughts?

I would consider it, but frankly I don't think I would end up doing it.

I like HPDEs too much, and no sane person would purposely track a stock FD if they have a choice.

So does that mean an RX7 would be BSP instead of ASP? I'm running SM2 because I can't compete in ASP, but if we move to BSP that would be killer.

I highly doubt that would happen just because of the move to AS.
I don't know if you have seen a prepped BSP Evo but I would not even like to run in BSP (the Showcase Evo guys are local to me and that car was amazing).

I support the move, they've needed a tweener class for awhile. Yet, even if I had a FD, I don't think I'd want to take my reliability mods out for the honor of losing to cars 10 years newer. I'd think the Caymans and vettes would be real tough to beat in a stock class. We'd be giving up alot of tire, and have little (if any) weight or power advantage.

Also, on SP... BSP sucks yes, I got stomped by 2 evos when they bumped into SM2 at the Finger Lakes Pro, but the CSP miatas are the truly fast ones. Note at nationals CSP handily beat BSP and was right on pace with ASP.

That would make the RX-7 the oldest and least expensive car in A Stock. I guess it's better than keeping it in SS, but if we were forced to run the stock downpipe I doubt many people would do it.


Either way, I'm not out there chasing trophies, I'll just install the parts I want and run the car in whatever class that puts me in, even if I'm not competitive. Maybe I'll find the time and money to build a car to rival the McKee and Strelnieks someday, but until then I'm just in it for the adrenaline and to hang out with good people.

STR has come up since I started the thread. If I decide to put my money and time into a car it will be to slowly build up my FC from ES to STR or put my ASP 93 R1 back to stock.

Either option will be faster than racing my wife's '05 Grand Caravan SXT in HS (Yes, I did twice... the 7s did not have insurance this Summer).

I only did a couple of locals this Summer so no use taking out the 7s.

3rd out of 5, that means you beat 2 other competitors with a minivan. Ouch.

And he was only a few tenths off the next guy in the class. Ha, that's awesome. We've had a guy bring out his Ford Lightning, but I never thought I'd see a van of any kind. Didn't know if you'd even be allowed to run or not, bringing something other than a car.

Getting it out of SS was a good idea, although I doubt anyone will want to track a car with the pre-cat on. It'd be better if they moved it from ASP to BSP, or better yet, get a STU2 or STM2 class started up. I'm going to get reamed in my class (Street tire) the first few events cause my cause is pretty much stock beside some reliability mods and non-sequential.

I am just in the process of putting the stock precat back on for SS Auto-X.

Auto-X is 1 minute or so sprints, so I hope the precat and tiny IC aren't sooo bad, but for track lapping I agree it is really hard on the car.

So, the car is also set up from the previous owner w/ Halman RX boost controllers for wastegate and secondary transition, which is great for perfect boost and seamless transition.

BUT, I wanna travel to other clubs and run where they might not be so lenient.

Is there any way to get half decent boost patterns with stock computer and solenoids and some kinda pill or bleed when running K&N drop in filter and 3 1/2" catback?
