VARA's cutoff date for most classes is 1972, the exception is NASCAR cars through 1994.

so no RX-7 for VARA

Dont know about R-100,
BUT 71-2 RX-2's should qualify for one of the under 2.5 liter Classes.

I know a guy in Alabama who races a 79 with HSR using the old IMSA GTU rules. He does quite well against the porsches!

HSR (west) IMSA/CanAm classes include cars thru 1980, but Running a Competitive IMSA GTU class car is expensive (roughly equal to SCCA GT-2 rules)

Is his name Tom T. from Huntsville, AL?

I the guy I am referring to has a Blue 1st Gen (I thought it was an '80 model) with a FACTORY wide body kit. His car was a IMSA race car the day it rolled off the assembly line. He got it around 8 years ago and fully restored it and runs in some Vintage race series here in the S.E.
