Anyone run a larger pulley on their alternator to slow it down?
 

I know alternators are a weak point in first gen. race cars since they spin so fast at high rpm's. I spoke to a guy that runs a 5" pulley to slow the alternator down. Anyone else do this? Anyone know where I can get one?

Racing Beat sells one. I have used it for years, and it works well. part #11479, cost is now $42.00.

If you are running on the track, you need to be running their smaller crank pulley and larger water pump pulley (to prevent cavitation and run cooler) too.

i've run my mazda racing ones for a while now on the street and track with no problems. works great. ( small crank, larger alt and water pump)

Anyone have poor alternator charging with the RB crank and alt pullies?

At idle yes., however anyting above and the voltage goes back up.

Yes, at idle, with 100 watt head light bulbs and heater on full and windshield wipers all on at the same time, at idle it just is not quite enough voltage to charge. But, get the revs up above 2000 rpm and everything is just fine. I have been using the RB pulleys on the street for 18 years, and on the track for 10 years now.

For a race car, don't worry about idle voltage output from the alternator as long as it charges fine with the revs up.
