Anyone Road Racing Their FD with Falken RT-615K OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS WELCOME!!
im looking to get tires to road race my FD on, but that i can also drive home and around town on
im seeing good reviews about the Falken RT615k, but all on other cars want to know if anyone has experience with them my tire setup would be 235/40/18 on an 18x9 wheel Front 275/35/18 on an 18x10 wheel Rear let me know what you guys think |
When you say road-race, i assume you mean track days...maybe Time trials...
I am partial to the Nitto NT-05 for a track tire you can drive home and around town on. A full tread RA1 would also work but wont be usefull for anything other than the track in short order. Some other good ones are the Dunlop Star Spec...or the Bridgestone RE-11. I dont know much about that Falken tire... |
I know the Azenis 615K gets a lot of love from the Chumpcar crowd. The other major tire is the Direzza Star Spec. Tires have to be over 200 treadwear, so those two are the top choices. We bought eight Azenis for our upcoming race, so in a month or so I should be able to tell you my thoughts.
Most likely, there are better tires for track day and there are better tires for the street, but for a cross-over tire which does both pretty wee, they seem like a good match. -Trent |
I had much success with Nitto NT05s on track, they have a ton of grip for a street tire, are predictable when they break away and handle heat well.

Azenis work well as a street/track day tire. I use them on my FB GT3 car. They do get hard after several heat cycles so I would recommend having a second set of rims with any tire of this compound (NT-05, Hankook RS3 etc.)
But, yes, they will work for what you want. |
curacaosfinest i see that your getting more interested in road racing with the 7. Im in the same boat as you have but have been runnin autox & road courses for about a year now..... If you want my opinion i would suggest getting some track time & by then you will know what exactly to do to the car as far as handling wise..... By then you can get a feel of what you should change.......
But dont forget to keep reliability #1 as to finish first you first have to finish! oh and one major thing..... I went with street tires before i got on to dot racing tires and OH BOY did it help me learn car control very quickly! KEEP ME UPDATED ON THE PROGRESS OF YOUR CAR! |
