Anyone ran Gingerman, MI before?

If you have ran that track before, what was your laptime approximately?

Silkworm 03-05-03 08:42 PM

Never run it.

What was yours?

Takumi 03-05-03 09:53 PM

I don't have an RX7... :p

I ran 1'40" flat with my Integra R on R compound, coilovers, removed back seat and everything else stock.

Looking forward to breaking into the 30's. :)

Yes...1:36 to 1:38 street tires, April in South Haven (read no traction!). Actually had lake-effect snow in 2000. They plowed the track, and off we went, literally :) I attended with Speed Trial USA. I thinky they still do April dates @ the G-spot ;)

Yeah, all the time, great track! I ran 1:39's with 1 bad apex seal and a huuuuge O-ring leak last fall (last event before winter engine replacement, thought I'd see how bad it got....it got bad)

It's a bit humbling that the ITA guys run 1:36's but I guess that's what you get with an all out race car. Well prepped, moderatly driven street sports cars seem to hover right around 1:40 though. (1:38's are awesome on street tires, BTW)

This is an outstanding track for anyone who is afraid to take their car to the track, very safe, not too much work and fender friendly.

The fastest RX7 I've seen so far on that track is a red one. The driver's name is Ric (dunno if he's on this board). He ran 1'33"XX on R tires. Pretty impressive.

What made my jaw dropped was a black Civic hatchback, with a JDM 1.8L motor, stripped but still street legal, ran 1'35"XX on Hoosiers. Amazing.

That would be Ric C. Yes he is on the board, but doesn't post much. Met Ric back @ the '99 G-spot event with Speed Trial. First time out on track for him. He blew an IC boost hose, and we had to duct tape it for him to continue (ah the joys of owning a 3rd gen, sigh). Anyhow Ric C's totally hooked, and now has 10 x 18 CCWs with BFG R1As all around. Max Cooper Fitment's the sh*t if you have 2.5-inch coil springs all around :)

Hoosiers are the sh*t if you can drive. Slow car? Slap a set of Hoosier R3S03s, and give faster cars fits :)

Yeah I ran there a couple times with my FC and twice with my FD. I did not use my slicks when I was there with the FD. The tires I bought the FD with are Goodyear GCs all seasons or something like that. They were howling on the track especially on turn 9 (I think that is the fast one before the back straight). As far as times I did not have anyone timing me. This spring I will make sure to get some times. I enjoy that track. There is a lot of runoff room. Track practice For 50$ most nights 4pm or so until dark you can't beat it.
Any of you guys been on the track with the owner when he is racing his FD? It is a pretty sweet race car.

Manny, what a memory you have !!!,
thanks for the pat on the back, but you were off a bit on my best time, actually it is 1:34.62. And yes I have been on the track with the owner, we actually switched cars for a while and ran a few laps.
I highly recommend to anyone if you get the chance get out on that track, its really great.
I hope to get at least 6 days out this year, new brakes going on the car in the next few weeks I hope.
To anybody, please let me know if any other 3rd gen owners are going to be at the "man" anytime soon.
Ric

Ric, too bad you can't make the March 22 Putnam Park MDC event. Lots of FDs there. Some day we'll see each other again at Putnam Park or G-man (haven't been there since 2000!). Say "hello" to Ron Tsan (turbo Miata), and Bryan Hunter (black NSX) for me at the "man". Also Tom Jelly runs his FD at Gingerman...

Takumi 03-12-03 10:47 PM

Brian Hunter with the black NSX is one of the few that can put up a good competition with Ric. :D

I was at Gman 6 times last year but I never saw Brian there.... Maybe he moved out of the area??

Now Wayne with a blue Z06 is tearing down the track there, running 1'34"s on *stock tires* (altho those stock tires are outstanding, but still)! From what I heard, he was a pro racer.

1RedR1and1RedPEP 03-15-03 07:58 PM

Actually his name is Duane Grahovic, he is a former Trans Am pro racer and he if very fast in his stock ZO6 as is his son Toby who came in third in SCCA nationals at mid ohio in his showroom stock integra type R. Both are very good drivers and very helpful to all all drivers. They truely set an example at the track for all to follow.
Ric
