Anyone know a respectable time for ITA first gen @ Watkins Glen?

I was running at the Glen a couple weeks ago and I turned a 2:26.209 for by best time. The fastest I have ever run there before was a 2:28.7...so I was thrilled that I was able to knock off 2.5 seconds! I ran this year with a complete ISC race exhaust and new Proxes...the first time I have ever run with new race tires! I was happy with the time, but don't know if it is a respectable time compared to ITA first gen's. I run with EMRA, not SCCA so I was wondering if anyone knew what the SCCA guys are turning with an ITA legal car at the Glen.

Thanks!

how the heck can you run the glen?! I did some checking, and they said unless Im with a racing club, where the track is rented I cant. I know your with one, but is there any class that I can run my t2? Nothing bumper to bumper, just some fun track days?

Sure can! Check out EMRA's website at www.emraracing.org

Along with door to door sprint and endurance racing, at each event they also run time trials that you can run your street car. Very controlled, passing only in designated areas. When you are on your actual timed run, the cars are released every 30 seconds or so, so there isn't any traffic to worry about. Very safe and fun for street cars! They have a class for everything...you should definitely come check us out next year!

grrr nothing about a 1/2" spacer can be used:( Is there a reason for this? I had to run 25mm spacers for my FD wheels (1") Looks like I might need to find a cheap set of wheels

EMRA will let you run ANY car you bring to the track, as long as it passes the safety requirements. If you have some mods to the car, they may bump you up a class...or create a class for you. You will NEVER be sent home because of a classification problem. If you have any question of any kind, post them on the "Boardroom". Too bad you just got on board...we JUST ran at the Glen a few weeks ago!

PDA and other clubs run at the Glen also.

Trackmasters runs there also and if you have a lot of track time you can apply to G52 or Fast track times.

ITA time at the glen is in the 2:20 range, those Acuras are fast but Bret DePerdo beat them all in his Miata late summer. I believe the track record is almost an 2:18. Sorry for the bad news.

Yeah, I am not trying to find the best ITA time...but a good legal ITA first gen. time. I know the CRX's and Integras are much faster. Kind of ridiculous that the first gen 12a is still an ITA car!

That big of a spacer is a safety hazard, anything above 3/8" is putting signifigant strain on your lugs and is increasing the danger of sheering lugs and losing control of your car. Especially at the kinds of lateral g's you'd be seeing while track racing.

might want to check out the improvedtouring.com forums. there appear to be quite a few ITA 7 guys there that might have run the Glen.

the Glen was my favorite track after Bridgehampton, but its so freaking far and driving through rural NY for that amount time is like begging for a ticket. i got pulled over twice coming home! thankfully wasn't going too fast.

Have you checked MYLAPS.com? Do a search for Watkins Glen and find a recent race. Then dig through the race groups for ITA.

This is amazing, I live about a half hour away from the Glen and wanted to drive on it so bad, but have been told that we couldn't. So maybe next year you will see me and a couple of my friends come join in :)
