Anyone a corner-carvers member?
Trying to register on the website, and my registration has been sitting for a week now. I did everything that I was supposed to, and even PM'd a mod. He got back to me, but I still have a restricted account.
Any suggestions? |
It's really hit n' miss with the site. I was fortunate enough to get on in three days. What email are you using? If you're trying to use a "typical" site (gmail, yahoo, etc), you may have been blown off. I'm using @att.net, for an address if that helps.

I don't even know if my account is still good over there. I do remember that it took quite a while for my account to be accepted. I don't remember the exact duration. I do remember that when my account was finally accepted, I had already forgotten that I had applied for one. ;)

I've got an account there but dont recall it taking a long time. Wasn't much traffic back then, has it picked up at all?

They need to rethink their email domain rule.
That is really ridiculous. I use gmail, have been for many years, with no plans to change. The thing is, many millions of people use gmail. I do have other accounts, but they are either work accounts, or only checked sporadically. With the wealth of info available in the www, I don't think corner-carvers is worth the trouble. |

Gotcha. I was just going to check out the forums and see if they had any good info, but at this rate I will forget about the forum before I ever get access.

They are a community of no-bull engineers and actual racecar drivers. Some of them even work for OEMs and car companies. Yes they argue, but its usually because they seek the truth, and aren't satisfied with conjecture and assumption. If you say something, you'd better have data to back it up. that's probably what i like best about the site. They don't let anyone prance around with a degree in thermodynamics from the Google-Search-of-the-Interwebs University. But now i sound like i'm all up on their jock. Really, it's a solid community with great information to share. Not the only place, but should be on the list of anyone who is serious about racing. |

OK, I've been convinced to check this forum out and have filled out the registration.
I can't get to the activation email until I get home. For those of you that have had trouble getting activated: Have you actually read the official rules thread? Because if you have not, you will not likely get your account activated. |
Not only did I read them, I went back and re-read them, thinking it was somehow my fault.
|
Got access a few days ago.
One thing noticed immediately - the great signal to noise ratio. Lots of content, little or no bickering. |

i signed up yesturday, and got activated today.
As already said above... read the rules, has all the details required to get activated. In saying that though, the technical sections are viewable to the public. So you don't _really_ need to be a member to look at all the very useful tech information. |
Just to back up some others - I've been on there for a long time now - its one of the best "corner-carving" websites out there. As its been said before, very high signal-noise ratio - something most of us aren't used to if you frequent many other forums.
You can be sure they won't hesitate to challenge your assumptions/post if you can't at least attempt to back it up with some facts. No fan-boi's there for sure. There are OEM calibrators, engineers, the heads of well known aftermarket suspension houses/etc.. that are members there. Its a great resource for not just driving, cars, but many other things as well. Enough on them - for those struggling with the e-mail issues, register with a work or similar e-mail, then change the e-mail after you get registered. When they instituted the e-mail restrictions, it was because we didn't want more members unless they were very serious about joining. They have things like "zero-tolerance week" where you can get banned for minor infractions,(permanent ban, not temporary). A very good friend of mine, very smart,(much smarter than me), knew the environment, yet still chose to argue and whine when he was called on somethings - he's no longer a member - i.e. was banned. If you are addicted to the go-fast crack pipe, its a must have membership. If you have a big ego - stay away. If you think your way is the best, or aren't very open to other ideas, do us a favor - stay away. If you are totally unfamiliar with the search button - learn or don't register. See you over there if your game. -Bob |
i've already been pulled up on my username. Fair play to them i say. Changed it to something more civil.
So far i've done shit loads of reading, and its refreshing to have lots of useful and factual information in the one spot, instead of trawling the internet. |
You'll notice most people just have their name as their username. Very few "fast FD", etc... If they do have that, they usually have their real name in their signature. You'll also notice a very low tolerance to big sigs,(i.e. no pics, a line or two, etc..).
I'm just posting this to help forewarn people. |

Thanks for the tip. I am just hesitant to post any of my "real" name online for obvious reasons.
Big take-away: Don't feel obligated - but simple usernames are much preferred to fancy names or symbols, hence "Lance" getting called on the = and -'s in his username. |
I have a suggestion for the corner carver forum rather than list emails that don't work how about listing the ones that do
Seems like an interesting forum and definitely made me laugh a few times reading the well written intro/rules etc....rhetoric. |

That list would be MUCH larger :) - every work/company e-mail, every local ISP: bellsouth.net, verizon.net, att.com, etc.. Its pretty much the free online accounts, g-mail, yahoo, hotmail that aren't allowed. And it can always be changed back to your free online account after you've signed up. I've had it on my yahoo account for years. (full disclosure, I signed up before the requirement - but you can still change it). Its also cuts down on random spam - ever gotten the PM that didn't seen to apply to you at all, or was a solicitation? Its an intentional additional step to weed out those who aren't really interested in what that forum has to offer. :D BTW Fritz - you'd be a very welcome addition there and I think you'd enjoy the info. |

For reference, here is the official list from cc.com. Bottom line, a free online account, it likely won't be accepted.

Do not even think for a second about asking for an exception. Just because your email service is not on that list does not guarantee that is an acceptable account. To make it simple, freemail accounts do not suffice. |
Great site
