Anybody participate in NASA Pro Racing
 

I want to get into it at mid ohio this year. April 20-22 However I am not sure how it all works. I read about it in sport compact and they make it sound like its 150 dollars and thats it. However what about gas while your there, is that included? Has anybody else had experience with this?

Are you talking about the "door to door" racing divisions or just the open track events?

All kidding aside, it sounds like you are only interested in track day events such as their HPDE driving events. They are geared for all experience levels and grouped accordingly. Typical day is $180-$280 depending on the track. Check out their site for more info.

I was checking it out and it said 330 for 2 of the days and another 170 for the friday before? That sounds alot higher than everybody says? Its at mid-ohio I don't know if thats a nice track or not, I'd like to learn how to drive on the track so If i decide to go for free I don't fuck anybody up or cause any accidents, nasa seems like a good place to learn these skills.

NASA is a great organization and they put on some fantastic weekends at the track. Here in the mid-atlantic region (VIR, Summit Point, CMP) an HPDE weekend costs about $350, although the price varies a little from track to track. They have different run groups that cater to every skill level.

BTW, if you are concerned about the cost of tracking your car, inquire about working at the track for NASA. There are usually plenty of jobs available in timing and scoring, grid, and flagging. In our region you work two weekends and drive one free. Not a bad deal if you ask me! Plus, I love being at the track, even if it means I'm working.

You are looking for HPDE's (as previously mentioned). It's not a cheap hobby.

You aren't just thrown onto the track. You'll get an instructor who will help you learn the track. I've never driven with NASA Pro events, but most events you won't get signed off to solo your first event out unless your last name is Schumacher.

Another thing to note:

The base cost of a track weekend is usually not the expensive part of this hobby. :) Consider wear and tear on the car including tires, brakes, etc. Also be prepared to fix any demons that may show themselves at the track when you are really pushing the limits of your car.

thanks for the responses, sounds like a blast, i was really interested because i read about the instructor in the car and it sounds like a great way to start. Anybody else plan on going there in April?
